I dont beleive it would go down to well if they found you driving the car 200miles when ithe car is already flagged to DVLA as having not passed it's MOT.

Police cars these days have automatic plate readers which will flag you up .......Big Bruvver ....You had better beleive he is watching :roll:

No MOT....No Insurance ....have an accident in which somebody were to be unfortunate and lose their life, and find yourself up on a charge of MANSLAUGHTER :shock: :shock: :shock:. Most people do not realise the implications of driving without insurance should the worst happen :shock:

I don't know about any change of rules...and its always bothered me about the insurance question in this situation, but I think that has more to do with road worthiness than MOT status. But if the car is un-repaired I think we are in a big grey area.
Of course I think you'll have been flooded by offers of help from those with trailers eh Si?

If the car is not MOT'd then in the eyes of the insurers its not roadworthy and therefore not insured.

I dont know about flooded with offers, I have offered my services and would do to anyone needing to move a car a long way and I always make sure the person gets a much better deal than a tow truck. Plus I will treat the car like it was my own :wink:

Hmm,
I'm still not convinced on the insurance point if the MOT is pre booked. If that was the case everyone would need to trailer any MOT failures (even if repaired) and MOT lapsed cars to a station for a test, similarly with cars that have just come off SORN.

I would expect more on Watchdog and the like "exposes" if this was always uninsured and therefore illegal?

Trade insurance still requires the car to be roadworthy so if the definition of roadworthy for insurance requires an MOT that would put lots of garages in the dock.

I suspect this is something that the police would jump on but I'm not disputing you are right, I can see both sides.

You can tow it (on a dolly) provided its insured (does that need it to be roadworthy too?)

Still puzzled...

I dont thinink the Police will look at the issue favourably since the car has failed the MOT no repairs have been carried out and the car is booked 200 miles away for another MOT :lol: :lol: :lol: ....you going to the slammer, do not past go, and drop your licence in the post Pronto :!: :lol: :lol:

I got my car to Lee for £100 SE London to Derbyshire- not sure it wouldn't have cost me more to drive it in petrol!!!!

Here is what Direct.gov says about MOT:

Why you need an MOT certificate
It is generally an offence to use on a public road, a vehicle of testable age that doesn’t have a current test certificate, except when:

•taking it to a test station for an MOT test booked in advance
•bringing it away from a test station after it has failed the MOT test, to a place of repair
•taking it to a place, by previous arrangement, where problems that caused the vehicle to fail its MOT test, can be repaired
•bringing it away from a place where the problems with the vehicle have been repaired
Even in the above circumstances you may still be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy vehicle if it doesn’t comply with various regulations affecting its construction and use. Your car insurance may also be invalid.

The police can ask to see an MOT certificate for a vehicle that needs to have one. They also have access to the computerised records of MOT test results and can tell if the MOT certificate for your vehicle has expired.

It is your responsibility as the vehicle owner to ensure that the due MOT test is carried out in time. You can use the peel off reminder sticker on the front of the certificate and put it in a place where you’ll be reminded of the expiry date. A place like the sun visor or the back of the tax disc holder facing inside the vehicle.

The penalty for driving a vehicle on the road with an expired MOT certificate is a fixed penalty notice from the police, currently £60, or a court fine up to a maximum of a £1,000.


so you can take to various places by prior arrangement but you may still be prosecuted... knowing my luck i wont take the risk...

I 'as acked ya moby innit .

What's ETA then ?
I had it booked in with the weld man this week .I will drop the guts out at his place using his lift then leave him to it whilst I tackle the subframe refurb .
Need to keep him sweet as very useful guy ..especially when I'm rammed to the rafters here

Petrol too so allowed within the M25. Mmm...
