Ben ,Renault gave me a story about the poetentiometer when I had the car.If you look thro the history you will find it.They gave me a ridiculous figure around £500 to fix it.Needless to say I didn't and I never had a problem with cutting out,only cold start cutouts which the DG fix has cured on my current car.

Think i still better get hold of one....

Just need to know what they look like and where to put it, when i get one.

Ive just checked with Renault and new, the co pot is £80 + VAT, so £230 fitted as a quote was alot of money!

The quote was £230 + VAT just for the part, not fitting!!!!

Thanks for the photo's etc. I have been round a few scrap yards today looking in the bonnets of 19's and 21's. I couldn't find anything that looked simular to yours. So hopefully Paul at ARR is going to sort one out for me, just waiting for him to get to me with a price....

Found one! It hasn't got the connector on the end, just bare wires, but as yours has been chopped anyway that shouldnt be a problem.

You can have it for a tenner delivered if you like...

Renault dealers really are taking the "wee wee".I booked a std mileage service and after I dropped it off they rang to hike the cost 100%.I told them to stuff it and stormed down to collect the car,when I arrived they admitted that I had given all the info regarding service and would do it for the price they quoted.But low and behold the list of things needing attention was as long as your arm.Main dealers allocate a set time to do a set job on a set car and with an Alpine they have about as much idea as any decent garage would.They work on the principle that your an ENTHUSIAST anD will stump up whatever the ask to fix your pride and joy

Yes, quite......you have to think that most the guys at a modern Renault dealership have never touched (or even seen) an Alpine before, so theyve got as much idea as anybody on fixing/servicing it.

Modern main dealers dont fix cars they fettle them! Its cheaper to replace an engine than deal with a difficult head or bottom end problem and in the case of most modern cars its cheaper for the manufacturer to replace whole units than repair or replace small parts.

And the reason it is cheap for the manufacturer to replace parts , is because the parts are cheap.
It's only when the public purchase the parts over the counter with a margin added on that the parts are then expensive.

They are ROBBING BA***RDS!!! Wouldn't be so bad if one price was the same whatever garage you went to, but £80 up to £230 is taking the P**S ajust a bit!

Anyway, the legendary DG has has got a CO pot on its way to me and i have just taken the car for a blast and through all the uaual tests to check for cutting out and all is well (touch wood). So i think the cutting out problem must bo to do with the HT leads braking down under heat... Or i hope thats it and its cured.....

has anyone actually set the co with this thing! removed the tamper proof plug and low and behold there is damn all in there to twiddle!!!!

What you talking about? Theres a little cross headed screw/pot on the end when you take the cover off

Ha, ha, I think Ive just realised what you're on about!. If you remove the tamper proof plug, the pot isnt behind it...you have to pull the outer black casing off from the lead, then the pot is inside. The tamper proof plug is there to stop the case coming off on its own....
