Tailgate struts.

Postby turbodog » Fri Mar 04, 2005 11:50 am

Just what are Renault playing at ?
About three weeks ago, I ordered 2 tailgate struts (part number P R60 01 015 968) at £14.70 plus VAT each.

I paid the money and waited. Yesterday I went to pick the parts up, and was told that they'd got 2 struts for me, but it was replacement part (numbered 60 01 017 010) at £73.40 plus VAT each :x

Consequently I didn't purchase the struts as I was not prepared to pay the extra.

I shall take this up with Renault UK and let you know the outcome.

Andrew, I was quoted £14 last July, and when I went to order some last month, £70 each. Like you I declined, but I had not paid for mine.
Please do let us know your outcome.

Simon, do you still want mine?

Andrew, unfortunately tailgate struts are one of many affected see this thread for others: http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/PHPBB/ph ... highlight=

PS the replacement part number is correct. I have a new pair and the numbers on the packets are 60 01 017 009/010

They look identical to the old ones and are still made by the same manufacturer. Stamped STABILUS ELEKTRO-LIFT

If the price changes but not the part number and you have paid upfront they should honour the deal. Perhaps the new number is a way around this

Don`t take my word completly on this, but if you payed £xx for an item and you have an invoice but had to wait for delivery and in the mean time the supplier has a price increase, it`s the amount that you originaly payed prior to increase is all you have to pay (subject to small print on invoice)and it`s the supplier that looses out.
The same goes for `firm qoutes` on work to be carried out, but this is subject to additional work been found then another revised qoute has to be given.

Lexus owners are also suffering from EXPENSIVE bonnet struts, £17 each!!!

See this thread, you can get them recharged, with a 2 year no quibble garantee for £12.50 each. I guess the company mentioned can do Renault items too.

gas struts are a fairly famous product for the DeLorean, and a few years back, I was having my own made. The cost was about £12 per strut but you had to make 20.

20 struts is only 10 cars! I need a new pair, must be 9 other owners who want to replace theirs at around £24 a pair! Is it worth trying to put an order together? Just a thought!

Not that simple .You have the heated rear screen connectors to complicate matters .Pretty sure you can get the struts off the shelf but it wont have the spades .

RED21 is quite correct.
Legally the contract has been agreed, the price was quoted, you agreed to pay the price, presumably you paid for them and they agreed to supply the goods. They can not then revise their offer and demand more money.
They probably have a clause that states that they reserve the right to make additional charges etc. but you should have a case if money has already changed hands. That milesone constitues a legal and binding contract between you and the supplier.

Trading Standards would be only too keen to look into this one for you.
First off though, speak to their manager and explain the situation. If no joy then inform him (by letter is best, copy to Trading Stnds) that you will be taking it up with Trading Standards.
Also, send a copy to the dealer's head office. That always concentrates the mind...., especially the branch managers!!

The way Renault get around this though is by changing the part number.

Theyre basically saying the 'old' cheap part isnt available, but the 'new' expensive one is. If you don't like it 'here's your money back then'...and then by default the only part you can order from then on is the new one.

Simon, it appears that they have the front bonnet struts for the Alpine available at £12.99 each.

Good find. :D
