Dave's new brakes

Gave Mr Miles a hand to fit his shiny new big brake kit yesterday.

He asked me to post a few pictures for him so here they are.

and very nice they are too!!

nice kit....looking good. buit i can't believe he's given you greenstuff pads :roll: , they're sh1te..... they'll just counteract the performance gain the kit gives you, even the brakeman himself says they're crap, but they are cheap :oops:
they'll probably catch fire at macon with the heat you'll shove through them under heavy braking

put some ferodo ds2500, ds3000 or mintex or pagid..... anything but ebc

i've got a set of redstuff you can try, just bedded in and they feel like they're made of wood :roll:

He didn't say that exactly, he said they weren't suitable for the type of use you wanted on the Spider i.e. (circuit/race use). We know they're no good for that.

Dave wants to take the car down to Tesco as well as a bit of fast road. And he wants them to look nice ;-)

We'll see how he gets on with these and go harder if he wants. They are already a massive improvement on the normal crap seaweed mix most GTA owners fit.

And as you say they are also massively cheaper than the other options.

I agree in my experience the green aren't really up to hard use on 300mm disks, but even the black are OK on the 330s on the GTA as even those don't get that warm it's such a huge size upgrade from the weeny 259s.

And yes EBC black will also over heat and kill you after a few laps of Croix as I found out... And they are still on for Macon :-(

my spider is road use mate with the same 4 pot kit dave has..... i've been telling you for a long time to steer clear of EBC pads mate they'll end up killin ya :oops:

i've got Ds3000s on mine now and they seem good, i'm much happier now

my spider is road use mate with the same 4 pot kit dave has..... i've been telling you for a long time to steer clear of EBC pads mate they'll end up killin ya


It's not the same kit though apart from the caliper. He has 330mm x 30 disks and the EBC pads cope much better with those. It's a huge 60%+ disk size increase over the standard GTA ones and much less stress/heat whereas yours is still standard size and much more stressed. Also Dave has the new curved vane heat treated rotors so less heat still.

Yes the standard size 300mm disks and EBC pads can overheat on the Spider/A610 with the 300mm x 24mm standard size staright vane disks as you know and I found out at Croix. Looks like Mr Gardner managed to warp his as well. Also feel is worse on Spider maybe due to no servo so you have to push harder!

Personally I'd like to try some of the decent pads (Mintex) that you suggested in the A610 with the 5mm higher material with the 310mm x 26mm rotors in curved vein IF (and its a BIG if) I can can get him to get his finger out and actually get them made...

Have to agree with Andy on the EBC issue. After having one pad break up in the caliper I wouldn't touch them again..... I'm sure they've improved but not impressed!

dellboy set some greenstuff on fire at brunters with his a610 and he still defends them.....

i've never seen any major race series using their products.... whatever...
i'll never go near them again i value my life

When the pad broke up the first time I hit the pedal it went twice as far and only braked on one side (until the fluid had pumped in to fill the gap).

Given the choice I'd rather have the pads catch fire. :lol:

Friend of mine with an Alfa had a minor engine fire which he put out with two bottles of San Miguel he had in the boot. 8) It's just the way we roll with it round here. :wink:

I run the reds on the front and greens on the rear of my GTA Turbo that does do some track time, without being overly serious, to find them quite OK.

They have reasonable bite cold on the road as well, causing some wear to the standard discs, but they are reasonably cheap to replace when the pads are done.

From reading it seems quality control to be the problem, being a bit hit and miss.

greens would be ok for the rear of any Alp or spider etc as they don't do much work, with thew bias restrictor etc.... the fronts do..... the reds in the front of my road spider with tar ox 40 groove disks which are the best one piece disk i've ever used ( they used to be on the race car with mintex 1177 compound and worked a treat) ... the brakes were crap no feel .... even using SRF fluid.... they felt like wood, added braided hoses, smaller bore than normal to handle higher pressure, still no feel, changed the pads to ferodo ds3000 voila brakes that actually work and i'm confident with, 've tried most makes of pad deveoping brak kits for the race , road spider and A610, and i rate mintex ( Fseries give awsome stopping performance onthe race car), pgid, ferodo, racing compounds, never ebc i'm afraid

Me likey, they look very nice, I must admit not a fan of anything EBC, I always use ferodo ds2500 on my clio and they have been stunning! Like the hi spec callipers they look the nuts.

With redstuffs on my 610, the brakes were superb when they were at the right temperature but overheated far too easily.
