It was simply the door lever not moving the piece of bent metal from the micro switch. I've had the car eight years and the operation of the passenger side has always been intermittent. Now I know why....

On window issue...
Squirted loads of oil on the spiral metal thingy that drives the window up and down, plus oiled the runners. Seems to make a big difference.
Hoping some of the oil may make it's way to the worm motor mechanism, but perhaps this is less important.

Next is the passenger side - as that is a bit sluggish as well.

Hi John,

The central locking is working from the keyfob fine.
If I lock and unlock the drivers door then both doors unlock / lock together which again is fine.
Put the key in the passenger's lock and it only locks / unlocks the passenger door.
I can live with this. I'll concentrate my efforts on other areas that need sorting

Cheers guys :D

Actually Lee, I may have a project for you.
A friend of mine bought his GTA back in 1989 (it was two years old at the time) and has owned it ever since. Early turbo (air cooled) version which has had a hybrid Essex conversion, lowered and stiffen'd, remapped, running high'sh boost and hence bl**dy quick compared to mine. Finished in lovely, deep, gloss black.
He hasn't used it for around 3 years and is in need of some DLC (desperate loving care) !
It features on a famous french mag which I saw and bought at Le Mans a few years back.
Anyway, he's after someone to fettle it and put it back together - as it's suffering from a worn slave cylinder and various internal parts (carpets, trim etc.) being removed but still within the car.
He's in Staffs, within spitting distance of yourself ( I believe).

Wanted to know if you interested in looking at it. It is a non runner at the moment, so would need low loading down to yours.

..i dug up this post as my drivers window jammed about an inch from the top...need some more help though  ...i got the panel off alright and i can just about see some of the componants but have no idea how it works (i think my window is too far up for me to see the spiral thing)..

Anyway, as my window appears jammed the first thing I'd like to do is see if I can get it to move a little upwards....any ideas on bits i can tap, hit, twist, etc to try and bring it back to life?

Jules, I don`t know if your Alp is an early one or late one, but the later ones had a fuse for each window winder, the early ones didn`t, just in case yours is a late one, it might be worth checking if a fuse has gone giving the impression the window has siezed

Thanks John....mines got two fuses...I did swap it out with a spare first....when i flip the switch i can hear the electricity, think it coming from the door...

It would be cool if there was a way to manually move the window...

When you say you can hear the electricty....are you saying that the motor is running, or is it just a hum......not too sure what you mean about hearing electricty....can you expand on that. The spiral is within the long curved tube which has a slot along its length which runs from the motor to the base of the glass holder, but on the side you can`t see....put a finger around the back of the tube and you should feel it inside the slot. See if it is turning when the motor is running or not. It could be the motor has become detached from the spiral, or the piece that the spiral effectively moves along its length when turning, is broken.

Doors

Postby Miles » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:57 pm

B u g g e r,
Have just read post sods law.
Doors are already fitted post hinge rectification including the door cards.

Ah well suppose it gives me an excuse to take them of and replace the speakers next time, as well as oil interal components for electric window.
