Atmo cut out altogether any ideas please

Hi Guys my Atmo broke down on my way to the northern meeting last weekend and had to be towed home, does anyone know what part would fail to cause both no spark and no fuel pump? I thought it was a faulty immobiliser but my alarm guy says that would only cut the fuel not the spark, any ideas please. :(

Thanks for your input Andy + Clee, everything else was working fine up to it cutting out, but before setting off she was slow turning over then starter would suddenly speed up and start, to be safe I put a new battery on as I thought it was on its way out but it could have been the earths intermitent connection for sure.

You can run a permanent live from the small black junction box on the rear bulkhead to the positive terminal on the coil. If the car starts then you have a problem with the ignition live.

Don't run the car for long like this though. It's an emergency get you home fix only.The coil will melt (literally) after an hour or so.

Physically pull the fuel feed off the carburetor to see if you have fuel. If there is an airlock try sucking on the pipe. Get ready to spit not swallow!

Ahem.. Have you got a full array of the usual electrics Tony? In other words do you have lights, fans, indicators etc etc?

Hi Martin yes everything else is OK I was towed with an AA van and left ignition on to work the lights etc. she was dry stored through the winter while I retrimmed the interior. Sunday was her first trip out and she only got to Preston.....should have taken the Murena she never lets me down LOL

Steve thanks for the info I left the sucking to the AA guy he seemed to enjoy it.....he put a meter on the pump and no power to it then I turned the engine over and he sprayed engine start into the carb and no spark to ignite it, he thought my toad alarms immobiliser had failed but when i phoned the alarm fitter he said it would cut the fuel pump but not the ignition.

However if there is no ignition the pump will not run.....and the engine has to be turning over before the pump will run :wink:
A quick way to check the earth is to clip a jump lead from the engine to an earth nut on the rear suspension turret.....worth a try.
