Is it a green or pink colour?

I expect it is only from Renault, and it is Yellow/Green (Flourine colour) it is quite expensive, if my memory serves me right, about £30 for a complete fill with some left over (5 litre cans only...and you will require 3 of them).
On one of my previous posts regarding this coolant, I commented that before going to Macon last year, I wanted to replace the coolant which was Type D, that had been in the Alp for about 10 to 12 years, and because I did not want to stain the drive, I started draining from the rad bleed hose, which flowed immediately from it, and I was surprised that the colour of it was virtually the same as the new coolant, with no rusty coloured liquid, even the rad, once removed, did not have any sludge in it. On that experience I would use nothing else, to me having collected all the coolant, it does no appear to cause the steel pipes under the car to rust, and if you can imagen the job to replace those pipes, I consider it money well spent. However I did give the cooling system a very throrough flushing with water on both occations before refilling

The genuine tank turned up today from Renault £30.33 delivered.

RRP £28.08 + VAT

Observations:

1. There was no cap supplied it is the bare tank only.

2. It appears to have been modified in two ways:

a) Large bottom spigot is a nylon insert and is not moulded with the bottle
b) Threaded fitting for cap is a nylon insert and is not moulded with the bottle.

May be these alterations were made a while ago or they have always been like this and are not so noticeable on an old bottle but maybe someone will advise.

3. The pricing of the atmo tank therefore makes no sense as it is dearer than the price of a tank + cap ordered seperately even if it comes with a cap. Unless one of the outlet spigots is of a different size but I don't think they are.

When I got my new one from Simon Auto, it was a direct replacement for the original and I don't think it used inserts for the spigot or the cap threading.

OK, I haven't actually checked... but I think I would have noticed.

The only modification I had to make was to mark the MIN and MAX points on the outside of the bottle - there were no mouldings for those.

Stephen, is this what you mean about the nylon insert?....... The bottom spigot is of the same construction.

I think buisness accountants excuse this type of price hike by saying it is "pre-packaged"

My Atmo one came with the Brown cap as per pic, but I am surprised Mecaparts state the Brown Atmo cap is the higher pressure than the Blue Turbo one.

Where did you get this opposite info from Lee?

What's the number on the atmo cap if any ? It'll be either 7700805 031 or 032 .
I've seen browns and blues on turbos so I'm not sure now  Doesn't matter but would be nice to know for certain which is which .

The number on my new brown cap is 7700805031

As I bought my Alp new, and came fitted with a Brown cap, and the replacement unit came with a Brown cap, using the part No. for the Atmo reservoir 7701203221.... I think we can safely say that the Atmo should have a Brown cap, and the Turbo should have a Blue one

I'm just confused why the Atmo would use a cap rated higher than the Turbo if the MECA data is correct but then they quote Brown or Blue can be used so .............Also I can't see much point in making one only 3psi higher than the other ,what's the calc for boiling point/pressure ?...............Only one way to find out !!

I can pressure test the new Blue ones here and see ,but would be best to test a Brown one as well to eliminate any pressure gauge errors .

Just to confuse matters, Atmos are all fitted with a brown cap, Turbos years 86 and 87 are also fitted with a brown cap.
From 88 onwards Turbos are fitted with the blue cap.
And to make it even more confusing, it depends what years your car is listed so there may be a crossover period!
