Time for a Spider (again...)

Postby KR200 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 1:15 pm

Gents,

Bit worrying as the time's gone pretty quickly but in 2000 I let my heart rule my head and bought a Blue UK Spider straight off the cuff.

Naturally I performed zero detective work and then realised how wide the thing was. This was an immense issue as access to my garage was through a fixed narrow opening (a 3.2 911 went through easily) and I had half inch to spare either side. I got it in just about and the only time it went out was when I sold it not long after…! Without a doubt I would have mutiliated the sides. The drive home however was memorable. Felt planted but heavy IIRC.

Anyway fast forward 10 years and the itch still needs to scratched. Now I have a more sensible parking arrangment.

I see one's on Pistonheads. From what I've gleaned on here it's about 3k - 4k too stiff on the price. The yellow one still on was 13k ono. No rush as I can't really drive one in this weather. Or should I say enjoy the drive.

Anyone know of a car to be disposed of? Also I was going to fit a four pipe exhaust on mine. Don't quote me but I'm sure Devil made one. What's the deal these days? Oh and I still have the yellow Spider model which went with it when new.

Cheers

Perry

Welcome Perry, I'm sure the Spider guys will be stepping in with good advice for you.
Standard practice is always to buy the best car you can afford, the one with the least faults and damage.
All repairs are always expensive and turn out to be over budget in the end, unless you are very lucky.
Good Luck, hopefully see you on the black stufff.

Hi,

Most have done a low mileage so unless they've never been serviced, massively abused or been in a sizeable shunt then they (I hope) should be sound. They are a car to some degree that get cherished.

I deffo don't want a donkey. Or should I go get an Elise for an easy life?

(joke...!)

Thx

They are far better than a lotus IMHO I know they dont have a roof but the one on the elise leaks anyway, and then you are stuck with that rover engine which is not the best.
The spider looks much more of a show stopper, I really love these things. There was one for sale a while ago for £11k don't know if it is still avalible.
Good luck with your search.

I have a spare blue one here. Approx 11K miles. 98S so a late car. It has the 4 tailpipe Elia exhaust you are looking for and is otherwise standard apart from an induction kit but I have the airbox and exhaust to return it to standard. In great condition.

Price will be fair but not give away. Less than the other one advertised.

Sounds interesting. I've PM'd you.

Am also in London which is naturally handy.

OK.

Obviously a bit of time has passed since I started this thread.

Due to logistics at the time I didn't get one. (Sorry Mr Dell). However if there is a decent RHD one about then please PM etc.

I would prefer one with the ally case, books/history original condition etc etc.

Ta!
