True cost per head for the gala before any subsidies worked out at just under £60 so those of you that bought tickets at £30 got a bargain!!

Just done the sums properly on a spreadsheet. Near as dammit £59 per head inc drinks, flowers, AV, chocolate fountain, bar, drinks reception on arrival etc. VAT rules on prepared food don't help.

Some of it does come from club funds, technically up to £13 per head subsidy for members, hence the earlier post in another thread recommending that members come along and take advantage of their club's biggest event of the year!!

The income from the parking should cover a large proportion of that so the net loss is smaller but 100 more cars would have been better. There's no escaping the fact that running events cost money. To break even would be a result, but the very notion of a club subsidising it's members (even for just entry) means this is not possible.

I don't think so as there is £15 per head drinks allowance for starters, before you eat anything.

That's the problem, at first glance people think it looks dear at £30 (club) and then they go out somewhere else and spend more in a pub once drinks are included and that's not even taking into account any entertainment.

Having been cajoled along the first year, the RTOC boys know value when they see it and as a result have been out in force every year since.

That's why there was no wine on the tables for the last year and there won't be this year except a couple of bottles for H&C.

Got to say, the caribbean cheesecake was worth the gala entrance fee on its own. Absolutely delicious. :D
