...the less said about this for all concerned the better ....A day of " issues " all round and I didn't make it to the rollers .
Car is fine , just not mapped fully . Massive boost creep that will need some getting round and the clutch needs a few tweaks .

Bad bad day

Postby Tony Smith » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:24 am

My car fried the regulator in the alternator on the way and sat in the car park all day then had a 2 hour wait for recovery and a 4 1/2 hour journey home - heh at least it saved me my petrol money. The cars Martin brought along - Mr Violas didn't do anything untoward but Luis's car split a hose and then developed an air lock and sounded generally pretty unhappy on the rollers. Lee didn't show due to mapping issues. Don't think anyone in Alfreton will be looking to buy a GTA anytime soon

And due to work, I've been using the GTA as a daily driver this week till I could get the Lexus MOT'd. Luckily it passed yesterday :-)

Hi Richard,

Yeap one of those days, the blue GTA had blown a front bearing before we had arrived on the drive up, so the signs were poor right out the gate... wouldn't want to imagine if we had done this next Friday, being the 13th! Top hose let go, couldn't get the water circuit to bleed right there after as joiner removed the expansion tank bleed circuit, and just got feed up really. Too tired, headache and bad head; bed would have been a better option. Need time to map it, as it hadn't really run apart from the drive up, just ran out of time... to-do lists... First couple of runs were 220 at the wheels, and then a run of 230, but had only managed to set fuelling at 6000 rpm and no other points when the hose gave up. Didn’t wind in any boost, max it went too was around 9psi.

Jon's car behaved nicely, having finished getting it ready 3am before hand. Jon had dropped it off, and I was later back from work than I had planned Thursday, and there were a few things to make sure we were ok before hand. Pulled a solid 170 repeatedly, that considering it is essentially standard with boost drooping from 9 to 7psi means he has much more to come, just need some time to get the turbo setup so it holds boost up the rev range. Sorry Jon didn’t get chance to play with setup etc, but with the power and torque info now, this should be a problem.

The Friday that was…

Got Lui's plot through today, and run was a little better than I had thought (wheel hp numbers). Still loads needing on fuel / ign mapping especially top end, and wind some much needed boost in, but for an unhappy child not so bad

Jon - your car isn't boosting past 10psi, goes straight up and stays there now, but for some reason it hit's a brick wall at 10; have your boost thingy wound almost right in. Fuelling is sorted now.

Given your result was 170 hp at the wheels, looks pretty much on the money, look see here chappy:

Ok start of the year, time to get planning... so to this end, are there any takers to run this event again this year, say March? So pre-season setup time for the racers, and chance to blow the cobwebs out for the rest of us

Names:

Martin F – March – need a goal to push an old project along
