V6 Turbo - Distributor cap removal.

Postby Paul Taylor » Tue May 11, 2010 8:19 pm

Hi all,

My new leads have arrived, so this weekend i am going to fit them together with the new Distributor cap and rotor arm i have.

Is there any tips for getting the Distributor cap off ?.
Room looks very limited, and i have large man hands......
So, apart from getting the wife to do it lol, what other tricks are there.

Cheers,
Paul.

Remove the exhaust - it takes minutes on the Turbo and makes swapping the distributor and rotor arm a doddle.

I've tried it without removing the exhaust and the pain and effort just aren't worth contemplating!
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Well ive replaced all my plug leads, dist cap and rotor arm this morning.
Got to say...ive done easier jobs on a car before !!. My hands look like theyve done 9 rounds with a garden strimmer.

But all in all, a good job done. 1 Retaining bolt was missing from the old dist cap, and the screws holding the rotor arm in were loose. All the contacts were burnt badly. I would guess at 5yrs + old.

My set of 7mm leads were £18 delivered. See the Servicing Parts thread on page 1.
