Mounting an R5 Alpine/Gordini motor into an A110

Postby sublimate » Mon May 03, 2010 8:17 pm

While I'm working on rebuilding my R8G motor I have a line on an R5 Alpine/Gordini motor nearby for sale.

Can anyone point me to a write-up online describing the steps to convert an R5 Alpine motor for life in the rear of an A110. This seems like a fairly common swap, so I'm hoping there's info out there.

As I see it, some - or all - of the below issues need to be resolved, as well as other things I've surely missed:

1. cut off the back end of the cam (or buy new cam?)
2. seal off cam drive opening
3. weld on new alternator mount (or mount in a different way?)
4. cross-member - does this mount the same way?
5. bell-housing - does it bolt right up?

Anything else?

Is it easier to just mate the head up to some other block that has the correct mounts? What blocks work with the R5 head?

Thanks,
Victor

Mr Sasin will be able to advise on the pros and cons as this conversion has been causing him a headache for while now!
