'Funny' looks, reactions to your GTA?

Not a story about a GTA:
I lived in Munich for a year and made friends with some Alpine/Renault guys there (Great Bunch!). Tommi mentioned that as we're so close to the border we could go for a 'hoon' in the czech republic. He (and his homeboss) in his yellow windscreenless spider and me and my homeboss in the red A310V6. We had a great time. 100+ cruise on the Autobahn to the boader, nice blatt around the czech countryside, a cheap & reasonable meal then a bit more countryside and a stop at a 'fiji' market (makeshift markets in the middle of no-where which sell fakes etc).
Driving through a little czech village with Tommi leading, an elderly guy was so amazed by the spider that he walked straight into the road infront of me with his eyes still glued to the rear of the spider.
I missed him by inches......

Wadda ya'll think of my car then?
Makes me proud, seeing it on the hallowed pages of this site!

Getting back to topic, as I mentioned I get some really perplexed looks when I drive in it, and now the dumper's making a nice loud whoosh I get people breaking their necks turning to see what animal is making all the noise coming up the road!!
I haven't had the car very long so I don't have a lot of stories to tell but watch this space!

Also, because they are even rarer over here there are very few people who actually know what it is, even a lot of the staff at our Renno showroom! Having said that, anybody who does know what it is is normally very compimentary about it, and I'm always taking people out for blasts up the road. They always get out with a look of excitement on their faces (or is it fear!?!?)

God do i love these cars ,my missus laughs at me when i an waxing it [twice a week] but ive told her that its the only thing ive got that snaps nicker elastic at 100 yards,and my eldest lad 7 yrs thinks its the dogs danglies.
This is my third gta and i can honestly say they have been superbly reliable [battery ,clutch cylinder ,and ht leads is all] ,perhaps because it is driven very regular.
The amount of people who admire the car is unreal ,and they are not unwilling to talk to you about it as well,do you honestly think youd get this reaction if it was a porche , supra ,skyline ,sunny gtir or mitsu evo or scooby ? not a chance .
Boy racers in their hairdriers on wheels with a 4 inch exhaust dragging the ground comming up as close as they can and hoping for a reaction from you ,they want to overtake but dare not incase you floor it and leave em for dust ,so i just tootle along at 30 with a grin, and they get stressed.

Your Misses should'nt laugh so loud while you are gleefully stroking your hands all over your gorgous car. Would she be laughing that much if you spent that much time and effort on another woman???

I have to say your wrong about the reaction factor of the Japanese cars. I think its an age thing. I would say people over 35 react more positively to my GTA but I can genuinely say that I've had more compliments and interest in my Skyline from younger people. I even had one guy knock on my door to tell me how nice it was! I think its the Grand Turismo generation and the silly films like the Fast and the Furious that have created that aura surrounding the cars. Personally I like the GTA much better.

Having just imported a GTA Atmo in to Australia I finally got all the customs formalities done and was able to pick the car up from the docks last Friday. We trailered it home and stopped by the side of the road at one stage to check it was still tied down well.

As I got out the cars beside us had to stop at a set of traffic lights. I looked back and saw an Audi driver with his eyes glued to the Alpine. He kept on coming until he was beside us, still staring intently at the car. He finally looked ahead, realised the cars in front were all stopped and jammed on his brakes.

All too late. He ploughed in to the car in front, fortunately at not too great a speed, so no one was injured.

This is my 4th Alpine, so I'm used to all sorts of reactions and people staring, but this is the first time one of my cars has caused an accident, let alone on its first day in the country.

My previous car was a Porsche 944 and I'm so pleased I've swapped. The GTA is faster, nicer to drive (the 944 with power steering feels so vague compared to the direct GTA steering), it doesn't rust, you can fit 2 adults in the back of a GTA (just!) and best of all is the reaction of other road users. The Porsche used to bring out the worst in other drivers. If you were waiting for someone to let you out of a side road in the Porsche you might as well forget it, yet with the GTA people seem only too pleased to let you out. And the other day I returned to my car to find someone peering at the front trying to make out what the badge was. I then had a nice chat with the guy. I tend to say that it is a specialist sports car hand built in small numbers at the Alpine factory.

I like that! I might have to start using that description! Definitely sounds better than a Renault!

It sounds better when you've wasted a Ferrari or a Porshe in your "Renault". Bet they don't like telling people that. I always fancied getting a Skoda Octavia estate with the 1.8 turbo lump - fairly easy to get up to 250-270 bhp and then people would have to say they lost to a Skoda Estate no less - oh the bruised egos!

i did say that the car snaps nicker elastic at 100yds ,but im an ugly bigger so i stay in the car and drive past ,no need for the wife to worry [only joking ,im dam good looking but faithfull].
These cars are value for money ,performance ,comfort ,ride ,better stop ,i need to go and wax [the car that is ]
