Having had a play with the Alpine head unit late this afternoon i do not think there is any need for a Subwoofer now.
The 8" speakers in the doors go down to 29hz which is low enough for me. And the bass feels quite hard hitting.

I will see how it goes, but doubt i will get a subwoofer now.
The last few days ive been enjoying having the window open and listening to the exhaust !.

Well now that ive got used to my 8" door speakers and high output Alpine head unit, ive decided i do want a subwoofer.

Ive noticed that in the passenger footwell the area up against the bulkhead is actually just a angled panel, with free space behind it.
Thus it could be an ideal spot for a custom footwell subwoofer enclosure using a shallow depth subwoofer.

Has anyone here tried such a custom Subwoofer install ?.

No amp as yet.

But there should be room behind the glovebox

Been a busy chap today, building and installing my stealth Subwoofer.

I started by removing the fiberglass false wall at the bottom of the passenger footwell. And then made a MDF template that was actually somewhat bigger than the fiberglass peice i removed. I think it ended up about 15x16".
Took lots of messing around and trimming to get it to fit Snug at the bottom of the passenger footwell, while maintaining its angle of approx 30 degrees.

I managed to fit a full size 10" subwoofer into the panel, and it just touches the fiberglass firewall. The box is secured into position by a small L bracket on the floor.

The Alpine V12 amp that powers this, had to go under the bonnet, and fitted perfectly in front of the battery, which kept the power leads nice and short.

Its all wired up and working, and its SERIOUSLY loud. But it needs setting up properly, but did not have time to do it today. The AMP and the Alpine headunit both have lots of Subwoofer configuration options on them.
Just got it carpeted, and fitted properly as it was getting dark. So pics to follow another time.

Best bit is. No extra interior space has been taken up. Since it just replaces the panel that was there originally.

Just remembered to take a pic of my Custom Sub box. So here it is.
Made from 12mm MDF. Totally sealed.

All done on a budget.
The Sub is a 10" one, by a company called "Coustic". They seem to have a good name in the bargain audio scence.

£25 from ebay.

Powered by a older Alpine V12 series 2 channel amp ive had for years.
235 watts RMS bridged.

Spent some time today adjusting the crossovers in the Alpine head unit, to reduce bass to the main speakers, and then trying to balance the sub accordingly.
It now sounds absolutely great, and very powerfull. The bass pounds through the little GTA.

As mentioned before, there is no loss of leg room, or floor space. Since it simply replaced the fibreglass panel that was there originally.

This is great. Nice work!
So it is actually a (triangular section?) box rather than a piece of wood with the woofer attached.

Yes, if you looked at the side section view it would be triangular.
At its largest point (the bottom) it is 6" deep. So quite shallow.

Does the job though. And stealth too.
I asked my son to find the 10" subwoofer that was hidden inside the car. He climbed around inside looking for about 4mins and gave up. lol
