Battery

I have a 1986 GT atmo. The battery currently fitted in the car from a peugeot 106 and just up to the job (44 A) and I would like a stronger replacement. Trouble is the small dimensions. Any suggestions?

You could always buy a new battery tray from companies like Tanvics. You can get them just about any size. Then you could put whatever battery you like in - there is plenty of room...

Just been outside and checked my battery on the GTA. This is the most powerful one I've ever had and is totally standard size and connectors - slots straight in.

Its a Pavilion Type 027 - cold cranking 570 amps.

You want the strongest possible with all that wire back to the engine!

I recently cleaned up my battery earth connection, whell worth while as it was very rusty , and noticed that the steel battery tray had been modified to accomidate a larger battery.
Basically at the front of the tray the corners had been cut and the front lip folded down. There were just 4 off 10mm bolts to remove the tray, which I easily did to clean up the car's earth point down in the well.
While cleaning up the earth point I also unclogged the 2 rain water drain points, rubber pipes with fluted ends which were clogged with dusty gunge.
