One of the major "hidden" factors in the insurance price is how many of them get written off. Think of the sort of drivers who drive 1 litre micras - young kids and women who stopped learning the moment the passed their tests.

Get something a little more off the wall and the insurance goes right down.

A 20 year old friend replaced his 1 litre poverty spec Pug 106 with a 1.9 turbo diesel Citroen ZX Volcane (ie the GTi Diesel) and the insurance went down by £300 go figure...

I've been running around in my sisters fiat panda for a bit and have enjoyed not spending much on fuel so was looking for something similar for myself.
I found a cinquecenta for £150, I was set to buy it then rang round the insurers, the best I could get was £265, so I didn't bother.

I have several cars on a mixed classic/modern policy with Footman James, but am not allowed any more "modern" cars on it. They did say I could insure ANY classic for £130 fc though - an Aston Martin or Jag over 5yrs old qualifies as a classic ....

I'm now on the lookout for a "classic" for an everyday runabout something like a Panda 4x4 (quite rare and oddly expensive) or a mk2 Golf GTD.

All you guys with muliple cars in the fleet  , could you not have a trader type of policy which covers you for any car?

Or is there not a policy for private people who have car collections of more than say 4 cars and can cover all of them?

I got quotes for a trader type policy last year and was quoted about £1100 and they wouldn't include my Porsche (or the TVR I was looking at). Most trader policies exclude high performance cars.

My current policy covers modern and classic cars, but its based on a classic policy, so there cannot be more modern cars on the policy than classics.
I currently pay £550 all in for my, Range Rover, Z3, Scirocco and GTA .. so it works out at half the price of a "trader" policy ;)
