My first problem with my Alpine - any tips appreciated

Ive had 2 years of ownership of my GTA and never had one major problem.....but the time has come. :D
After somebody slammed into my work car [Elise ] i then got out the Alpine to get me to work. I only got 2 miles on the freeway and went to change gears and bingo....NOTHING !!
The gearstick felt like a pogo stick in fresh air....nothing there!

I am thinking....1. gear selectors 2. gear cable or something come off at the gearbox end 3. slave cylinder.
Which would be the more likely do you think?
Any hints appreciated guys.

PS: two cars off the road in one day is not good Karma :roll:

So basically it points to getting those white balls replaced ?? Anything else to be replaced whilst there.

Re the pedal....i have got clutch with no problems it seems.....altho she is stuck in gear.

Has there been any update on which balls to use [ooohh ] ?

More than likely the bush in the first thread rather than the balls .This fails and you're left with no gears .Balls tend to make changing gear difficult rather than losing them all .
I reckon it'll be the bush and/or the main linkage has popped out .
Item 14 is the bush .

mmm what's that pdf you have there, is it a single file with all the drawings/part numbers? Is it available online somewhere? For the whole car?

Hi Paul,
The parts book is out of date, when I got mine from Renault they were using part number 77 00 692 252. It was about 3 pounds.
This is made of a harder plastic than the original so should be a permanent fix.
It seems that if you haven't changed this bush, you will be soon....not too bad a job using the caulking gun method I expect (as in the photographs) . A real pain the way I did it.

Just to be clear, do you carry out this fix from under the car (as per the photo of Tony Law in the last news letter) or from inside the car taking out the centre consul as per Clee's note :?:

Mine hasnt failed yet (tempting fate just writting this) however, I'm thinking of getting the part just in case.

I'm thinking of getting the part just in case.

Good thinking Paul....I carry one...just in case, but mainly because if and when I do require one, they they are likely to be unavailable or on back order :cry:...but for under £3, must be worth it :wink:

(as per the photo of Tony Law in the last news letter)

If you use the caulking gun approach you do it from under the car with the gear change rod in place. The caulking gun is a clever solution as you can see the bush easily, but only get one hand in to do anything. The disadvantage of the newer bush type is its very hard so needs a lot of pressure to get it into the gear change arm.
Don't be tempted to remove the arm from the gearbox though as this can lead to problems getting it back on.
GTA is marginally easier than A610 due to lack of/or different routing of the A/C pipes.

Otherwise its a centre console out job, with all that entails- to get the gear change rod out and into a vice. It took me a day in my case as you are bound to have a few stuck bolts somewhere.

Thanks for all the feedback chasps. It turned out to be exactly as you said. Replaced it with the bush from a Fuego and bingo....like a new car.
