Drive shafts

Postby bbutc » Mon Jun 15, 2009 11:29 am

Hi

I cleaned out the garage at the weekend and found a pair of old GTA drive shafts [with ABS rings] from an Alpine I used to have many years ago.

They are badly worn which is why they got replaced and I was about to throw them in the skip but I thought I'd better ckeck with you guys first.

Any use to anyone or skip?

Where are you, I'm sure someone will look after them for you. They would be better than a broken one I guess.

They are only £60 new at the moment but there are no LH side shafts available any more only RHS so they could be useful to the club as a pattern for re-manufacture.

If I paid the postage and gave you the address would you be prepared to send them to the engineering firm that produces them for patterns?

Yes like Clee says one is slighly longer than the other, if you have 2 the same length then they are both for one side - not that it matters seen as your giving them away  Whereabouts are you? I'm not trying to nick them from clee or dell boy just if your close by or on my way to somewhere I could pick them up for them to save postage.

Thanks.

One is 720mm the other is 730mm, so they must be a pair.

But like I said they are badly worn and would not be much good for anything else other than being used as a template. [None of the boots have split].

I'm in Derby if someone wants to pick them up or will post.

They are very heavy. Postage will be steep. Have paypal account.

Ben.

No worries, Mr Metters has offered a pair of A610 shafts for the same purpose and they will be suitable for all vehicles.

The first of the new shafts has already been made but there are some issues with the CV joints which were made to a different spec, hence the need for patterns for comparison.

They were made with 6 bearings rather than the 3 pronged original type and I thought it restricted movement and felt horrible. Might have been stronger though. It wasn't me that commissioned the originals it was Renault, we're just doing a bit of fine tuning.

No chrome :( , you should like them they're matt black!
