One of the CAR guys I spoke to said his had been cured by fitting a new battery

My battery is completely goosed and I have a new one ready to fit, as you know I keep putting it off. So will see if this makes any difference.

However on the few occasions that I've taken it out recently with no battery at all, i.e. alternator only it has been fine.

When you say no battery at all.... you mean with a completely dead battery? The reason I ask is that the battery provides a very large capacitance and is essential to correct voltage regulation on the car, even if totally fubar.

The batt in my car is perfectly healthy.

Cheers Jamie for your pm - very interested to note the problems associated with the engine bay fans - I know I need to sort out the extractor ducting on the turbo one, but still works at least quite well. AFAIK though these are not connected to the ECU and therefore can't be related to the injector relay cutting.

BTW since I've been driving with the ECU "lid" removed, (carpeted cover between seats), it has been fine, and did 150 odd miles yesterday including several heat-soaky stops.

Martin,
Before you go hunting for the second one, there is only one fuel pump on a 610.unlike a GTA.
The Siemens/RENIX ECU difference could explain the GTA /610 differences in how often this happens, but I haven't taken either apart, I don't know how different the two are in the driver stages.

Yes I mean dead, 0V, unchargeable and unable to even raise a headlamp but still in situ!

Better get it sorted before I goose the alternator too + there'll be a decent weight saving by leaving the jump pack at home...

I am getting a missfire on my car which has increased noticeable since i put the ecu cover back on. I am using the adaptronic.
Does the adaptronic suffer from these issues too. Symptons only happen once the car has warmed up.
I am sure it would cut out if it was at tick over.
Next time i take it for a spin i will check the temperature of the ecu.

No, Dave, the adapt has a very good heat tolerance.

Being able to watch the live o/p's while driving will speak volumes - it could be that your map needs a tweak - running lean for eg, or it could be that the CAS is dropping out intermittently - is the sensor still fitted snugly? Could even be the fuel pressure dropping as mentioned earlier.

...or you may beed new spark plugs :D

I've spoken to some CAR folks who have also had this problem on their A610s. 3 different solutions.
Barry has taken his ECU out and turned it around so that it faces the opposite way to standard (which has the chips facing the bulkhead) and fitted an additional heatshield. The last I heard Barry had had no further cut-outs.
Tim had his diagnosed in France as being related to the injectors. Replaced all them and solved it.
Peter replaced the distributor cap and that solved it for him.

Thanks Jon, I haven't delved as deeply into the 610 as I did with the Venturi, but the V was definitely not the injectors, loom (made new one), cap or rotor :) I got as far as spacing it away from the bulkhead, and removing the carpet, then sold it :D

The ECU was definitely very warm when I was cutting out the other day - in fact I even thought about putting some snow in it to see if that'd help....!

Soooo, what about the 610 lumpy idle.... (and Venturi!)

lumpy idle- it was mentioned in the original road tests- back when Clarkson liked the A610.
Martin- I know you know this stuff better than me but otherwise it might be down to dirty injectors causing uneven mixtures and then hunting. Does it happen during warm up only or all the time. I think mines quite stable once warm, but can be a bit rough during warm up.

I know the K-Jet and odd-fires pretty backwards, and how the EFI ones work, but we're all slaves to the wiring and ECU map, and the more I look at it, the more it looks like the map in the 3 litres is decidedly compromised. Do you also have a flat spot from 2500-3000 when the engine's cold? My V did, and so does the 610.

If it were in an odd-fire the way it idles is very consistent with running too much ignition advance. The DeLorean has a vacuum solenoid which switches the advance off when you drop to idle, and when it (or the switch fails) it idles with little burps all the time.

I spent some time on Martin Guard's Venturi 300, trying to cure this lumpy idle and actually had the injectors tested and cleaned - they were all withing 1cc of 337. I also swapped out my injectors in my Venturi for the ones off Mr Clarkson's 610 engine, and nothing changed.

I really want to see how Tony's goes now the trigger's sorted. If only the idle stuff on the Adaptronic was as easy as everything else...
