Holley / Edelbrock carburetor coversion for GTA Atmo's

I put this set up on to a GTA Atmo that had long term idle trouble with carbs rebuilt by various 'specialists!'

I stripped the original manifold down and it along with sent a Holley base gasket to my local engineer.

He laser cut a base plate from billet as the conversion plates you can buy rubbish! Also the plastic manifold spacers were also laser cut because these are no longer from Renault.

Bought an Edelbrock 500 cmf carb, new jets and needles to suit the 2849cc.

Drilled out the right hand rocker cover to except a PCV valve.

Bolted it all together, fired it up and it idled straight away. Much smoother than the original setup and lovely to drive.

:D Looks great, have you had it on the Rolling Road yet? Be very intrested to see the power it makes in comparision to fitting an engine with triple barrels.

This is becoming a popular conversion. Bryan just sent me some pictures of his black atmo that has had the same treatment.

Popular, and assumably cheaper than the 2x 3 barrel alternative.

Had been looking to change out my Weber 40it's to PMO 3 barrel 46mm, however as the PMO's are made in the USA the cost to us Brits has sky rocketed from £1600 in the summer to £2k+ now :(

Would be intresting to see the BHP that can be got out of this config in comparision to standard/Weber 3 choke.

I would imagine that there is no more power as it has been jetted to suit a standard engine.

Just better running, idling and mpg!

RE. the black car that has a similar conversion, i dont think that its a great job really.

..... what sort of power would this conversion handle, is it a reasonably cheap alternative to tripples and will/could it give a cost effective good increase in power with other mods to suit?

Revised thinking on the Atmo if I can eek a few more horses out of her combined with a gear ratio drop for next year I will keep the odd fire for another year. Having thought about it, I want to do the 3ltr injected even fire swap properly rather than ending up with a rushed compromise. Do it once and do it right; that way I can plan the progression/develpoment of the car and not waste money and time by having to refit the lump twice!!!

DG has had 180bhp on standard carbs with 3 branch manifolds on a rolling road. If I could see around190bhp I would be a very happy man....is this possible? I know nothing of the head capabilities or where the restictions lie in respect of in the induction on these engines anyone on here looked into this? I know they run a cam when fitting the tripple car set up do they mod the heads too?

I am looking to save a lot of time and trouble for the immeadiate future if I can gain a little extra power. It does not sound that unreasonable to gain 10bhp overall with a carb change with some limited mods does it. Unfortunately there are no longer any pics being hosted any info on costs or a template would be very useful also jet sizes as a starting point?

Si, I had 180 on standard manifolds, I just opened up the internal bafflining on the OEM silencer so it was straight through, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and advanced timing.

You could always use a GTA Turbo inlet manifold and weld up the injector ports as the throttle body is centralised and the ports equal length and adapt the Holley to fit that, rather than the offset position of the GTA Atmo manifold.
