Insurance

Postby jon_viola » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:24 pm

Hi,

My car has it's 20th Birthday next Saturday and as most companies offer better rates for cars over 20 i've let my insurance lapse for 3 weeks to cover this gap and hopefully get a better rate or deal.

Or so i thought!!!!

Just spent a few hours posting quotes online and they're shocking, only a couple below £1K, for classic car policies, what's happening!!!

For the record my car is garaged, i had 3pts in 04 and have 5yrs no claims on other cars.

Any suggestions?!

I think you will find it has a lot to do with your posr code. I have my cars insured with Norwich Union, and pay £166 for the Alp, fully comp, protected bonus, policy holder and spouse only, 4000mls p/a, with £250 compulsory excess, including legal cover, and as an extra bonus (as with all N U motor cover) full continental breakdown cover.....but I deal through a broker. It only went up by £1 since last year. For the Jag I pay £269.41, same cover as above but with only £100 compulsory excess. Of course age comes into it as well......OAP and all that. (suppost to be better drivers    ) but as I say post code plays a big part.

Someone here on the forum recommended Footman James to me when my other insurers quotes started getting silly. 3000 miles limited with business cover was about £200.

For comparison, I'm 43 and live in Biggleswade. Relatively small town / low risk area.

I'm with these:- http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/

It's been creeping up every year but still only £200 per annum with full breakdown cover. That's for a 32 yr old with 3k miles, declared mods of exhaust and 17" rims.

I'm with Chubb Insurance.
A610, declared mods of wheels/exhaust, Agreed Value, 5000 miles/yr, fully comp.
29 year old Male, No points, no accidents.
£270

Also Lancaster Insurance worth a go. They were very cheap too.

Went back to Footman James through RAOC insurers AON! FJ gave me a massive discount with my Mercedes Benz Drivers Assoc. membership so £320 for 6000 miles, phew!
