A610 Power steering pump

Postby punterian » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:56 pm

Having problems with the power steering on my A610. Usually fine at the beginning of journeys but often won't power up when setting off again after a stop e.g. at service station. Have checked relay. Any suggestions for the cause of this intermittent performance and possible remedies would be very welcome.

If this is likely to mean that the pump needs reconditioning or replacement, recommendations for the best deals/dealers would also be welcome.

Thank you
Punterian

Hi
My recommendation for an overhaul would be BBA-Reman.

http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?c ... r_steering

Although I haven't personally had any work done by them, they have been very helpful and reasonable on the phone and have been recommended by my Audi specialist (other car).

I believe that the pump is very similar to a Clio Mk 1 unit- which they list as exchangeable.
Cheers

I had it done just by a local garage, one of the brushes had slipped so it was intermittant. Took about 20 mins to fix, plus getting it out obviously.

:D

Brought my new toy home this afternoon with new sills, new handbrake cables and new MOT, and one of the things Chris looked at was intermittent power seteering. Pump was filthy and a good clean out and fresh fluid has improved things a lot but still conks out occasionally. The theory is that the dirty fluid has over time burnt out the motor. Apparently the same as a diesel Clio (and probably many others, but that's what Chris recognised it as).

Also needs heater control cables.... no longer available form Renault, Simon has none either. And probable slave cylinder at some point.

I got a kit just a couple of months ago.

I also returned a first kit as it only had one cable in it instead of two (hole in the bag!) so at the very least that one should still be kicking around somewhere in the parts dept. Let me know if you want me to try and track it down.

I've got a shiny new nosecone badge (LHD 'Alpine' version) in stock also...

I don't know what you mean...

I'd be very interested in that spare cable - are they both the same? I know of a cable manufacture company through my DeLorean work and I'm sure I could get it copied.

When I can. My laptop is totally screwed at the moment, very slow, random beeping and much hard drive activity for very little result!

Not risking a site publish at the mo :(

I would be intrested to see how they do that on a 610, as they seem to be so hard to get to without ripping the fibre glass off around it..... any pic by any chance of when your man was doing the sill repair?

Yup,
I'd be interested in the new sills question too- didn't realize that was a weakness on the 610 (as opposed to GTA). Front wheel arches, now that is well known.....

Any metal work on the A610 generally seems to be a weakness.

I have seen completely disintegrated sills on at least 2 A610's and they are a fair bit younger than the GTA's

When I first bought mine I thought it was bad because it had any rust at all (wheel arches) now after looking closer at a few more I appreciate how good it is. At least I can jack it up with confidence!

Mr Dini is one of the lucky ones without wheel arch problems because his car has been indoors and undriven for the last 10 years or so!

Oh well,

Another thorough wash for mine this weekend then!
It was fine when I had the carpets out a couple of years ago. The fact it live in France most of its first 10 years also probably helped.

Are these panels available or is it a make your own service?
Cheers
