I have been known to wire a small 12v sounder across a warning light which gives an audiable warning of a failure. Quite useful if your too busy driving to keep an eye on the warning lights. In fact does not the "Service" lamp come on with any failure :?: If so wire a sounder across that :wink:

Optimum charge temp

I remember somebody very clever telling me many years ago that there was an optimum charge temp - and I think it was about 30 centigrade. Can't remember what happens below that, maybe fuel doesn't atomize as well. I have a chargecooler instead of the standard intercooler. I'll get Lee to probe me :wink: when Scoffs doing my mapping.

If the rad fan goes you normally get a warning light or watch the gauge .If the CC stops working you won't know till you go slow .....


Didn't that happen to Dave Miles because the plug came off the pump? The ECU has a MAT sensor for a reason and with an ECU that you can play with, it's easy to write in some safety factors in the event of intake temps going bonkers.

Si - you won't be able to cool the intake charge down below ambient temperature unless you start playing with water injection. In all this stuff theory only gets you so far but everything I've read states pretty clearly that the colder the intake air, the better, assuming the engine is set up to take advantage of it. I bet your car feels faster on a day like today vs the height of summer - this is colder intake but also a more efficient intercooler.

From what I saw on Rob's the other day, the intake temps were a pretty solid 30 degrees which suggests that the sensor can't really read temperatures lower than the throttle body, but is definitely capable of reading higher.

That was my point about having a CC on its own .....Unless you monitor charge temp you will not know if it goes , then it sits there and heats the charge .With a std intercooler that can't happen ,so leave the std in place and you have a safety valve ..There's no noticeable decrease in pressure .

No good for me as my no charge light is on permanently :lol: I must get round to hitting the alternator .It did go out the other day but then I slammed the anchors on and it lit up again :roll:

I was fortunate enough to buy the lot off Tony Smith last year he had them fabricated a while back but never used them, don't know who by but if you ask him he'll no doubt let you now. Pic's will be posted when i remember to download memory card. To be fair not much visible on the pics as i've fitted the kit with the engine in situ, not enough space in my garage to drop the unit out and work on it luckily i'm blessed with small handed friends for the tight jobs.

Hi Mav,I have the car that your twin turbo set up came from,the work was carried out by Green Light Tuning in 1993.I"ll be intrested to see what it go"s like! cheers Tony.

You`ve two options here Lee........fix the faulty alternator......or take the bulb out :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

...or cut the wire at the alternator... it's the larger of the two pins.

I have another light unit that monitors charge so ne bother ...
