Hi Guys,
I'm hoping soon to join the ranks as Alpinist.
Are you saying this is not worth persueing?? Major engine problems in the future? or are you talking aesthetics?

Also some advice on whether a turbo or atmo would be the better choice for a fairly skint, not very technical first timer to be used as daily driver.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I think the point is theres no such thing as a bargain alpine. Atmo is the way to go for more or less trouble free motoring engine wise, theres hardly anything to go wrong, a bog old V6 with a carb on top, whereas turbos being turbos, can have had a hard life.

The one in the pic, has been overheated at some time, but how badly you dont know... Like all Alpines, they need a good inspection and a fair amount of test drive time..

..also what Richard (Simonsays74) was pointing out was the main pipe on the top of the centre of the engine. This is the main boost hose from the turbo to the engine, and its not connnected. Maybe its an oversight, maybe the garage has been caining the car around and not going anywhere fast because the main hose has blown off!..

..also, looks in the engine pic, that it may have had repair work around the left hand side suspension turret. There looks like new black paint where the turret fibreglass meets the inner arch...

I think ARR has a reasonable Atmo one for sale quite cheaply.

I was also interested in this car as the seller is near to me, but it did seem strange that it was priced so low.

Thanks for your comment on this car, I may still go and look at the car just to see the car in the skin.

It does say it had a new water pump and fan in 2001....perhaps it just got hot and boiled?? Presumably if it had had major engine work he would have listed it.

I have decided to give this car a miss, from the info provided there seems to be something odd.

There are no bills or service stamps from 1993 to 2001, I would hope to see at least a yearly checkup on a car of this age by some kind of garage.

I was looking for a A610, always loved it since I went to the factory in France in my younger days. It may not be the best looking of the cars they made but its the one that I have always wanted to own.

Black Turbo

Postby stephendell » Wed Feb 23, 2005 4:01 pm

Went to see the black turbo on eBay today.

FYI

+ points

Body OK, aircon fitted, leather could still be rescued, new MOT, drives OK, gearbox good.

- points

delam corner windscreen, bad delam headlamp glass, cracked other headlamp glass, tailgate struts failed, both heated rear window connectors broken off, main ign.key missing, rear tyres on limit. electric door locks failed, stereo dead, centre console lid broken, steering wheel very worn.

Lots of white smoke/steam from cold + mayo in breather + no water in expansion tank on arrival. Signs of recent overheating so head gaskets likely to be shot.

Blue smoke on overrun so probably valve stem seals or turbo.

Could make a nice car if bought cheaply and you are prepared to do some work.

And the highest/only bidder (jamiew2005) is a virgin ebayer with 0 transactions, unless it's an ID just for this transaction.
I wonder if this is the same Jamie as in Stephen's Memberlist?
