Hi!, New to Alpine - Can an A610 be used as a daily drive?

Hi everyone, im Oliver, an avid Renault adict looking into an A610.

I have owned quite a few Renaults the ones of note being a Clio 1.8 16v, Clio Williams 3 and more recently a 197.

The natural progretion i think would be a Clio V6 or similar then i remembered an old Top Gear road test of an A610 and a Venturi. A certain Mr Clarkson praised the Renault, long since before he went mad and wrote one off!

Unfortunately i bought my first house and went sensible and now drive a very nice Golf GTI Anniversary, the car is very nice, sold, fast, economical and reliable. I do like it but deep down i am a Renault man at heart and just cant seem to shake them!

I have been chatting to James Drury the chap who ownes this one http://pistonheads.com/sales/784461.htm to see if we can sort a part exchange out with my Golf as his after a diesel.

The thing i would like to know is would you be able to use an A610 as a daily driver, its still a relatively new car and from what i can see uses a lot of standard parts. I only drive 6 miles a day so it would not be hammered and i cherish every car i own!

Yes I guess you could drive it everyday, but do bring a fire extinguisher with you at all times :D :D and make sure all the front end, especially the front wheel arches are all rust treated. otherwise you will find yourself Flinston style......... ask Mr Dell....... :D :lol:

I used my GTA Turbo as a daily driver to work (12 miles each way) every day for a few years, so I reckon an A610 would be great.
Certainly livens up the morning and evening commute!

Does the A610 fit in a standard size garage and would a need an air tight bubble for it??? lol

In fact, I've seen what I think is this very A610 in the car park where I used to work (and drove my GTA to every day)! Must be something about that place...

If anyone knows the car that would help! Im really trying to convicne myself its a good idea, would you expect most cars to have been ruist treated now anyway? I would have thought thats the first thing to do in the UK.

Certainly this A610 looked good when I saw it, and looks lovely in the photos.
Yes, these will fit into a normal sized garage and it really makes a big difference keeping it there - even if you drive it everyday. And if you're doing that, you won't need the car-coon for it!

Unfortunately my garage is full of car polish, my new bathroom and various parts from other Renaults, but if i do get one this spur me on to finish the tilling lol.

Hi,

I have sleepless nights about rust on these cars-only because I'd hate to lose it to the gods of rust! Mine has issues on the front wings and on the sill (where the handbrake should be on left hand drive models - Renault forgot to do anything about the hole!. Incidentally, if anyone knows if this is an MOT failure, any advice would be appreciated). My car has been undersealed to a large extent and I think it is a must. On the positive side, the bodywork itself is fantastic and looks brand new without any rust invading (watch out for bubbling on the paintwork though as this is common on A610's and all Alpine's and many have had resprays due to it).

I don't use my car as a daily driver although I see no reason why I wouldn't if I had to. I'm in a fortunate position to have a few choices and the A610 is my pride and joy and I only have it out of the garage on special occasions. In my experience as an owner, it is a very easy car to drive normally and you could forget what your driving apart from what happens when you press the loud peddle and people staring! If you have a little money in the pot for maintenance (which is cheap by supercar standards but expensive by normal standards!) I wouldn't hesitate getting one. It's a fabulous car. The ventilation is very poor though and all that power on wet roads makes for an interesting drive in the wet.

Thanks, mellowyellowa610 yours does look lovely. I would have to use it as a daily driver but to be honest from what i have read i cant see me wanting to drive anything else! I have always taken my past Renaults to Coopers garage i Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. The owner has a vest experiance with all Renaults old and new but not sure on Alpines! He is the only mechanic i have come to trust, im very fussy about my cars.

I used my GTA as a daily driver for years .Now issue whatsoever with using it as such .Apart from when it snows :twisted:

Yes, more reliable and comfortable than a GTA on a daily basis.
Trafic, Twingo GT, Vel Satis Turbo x 2, Clio V6 Proto Ph2, Vel Satis 3.5, Avantime, Alpine A610, GTA Atmo x 3, GTA Turbo x 3, R5 Gordini Turbo Mid Engine, Alpine A310 4cyl, Alpine A110, Yellow Smart

Thats good to hear! When it snows il borrow the misses car, or just a good excuse to stay at home and do a bit of detailing! Other than the rust issues is there anything else i should look out for apart from the obvious accident damage etc??

Ive been told that the A610 in the above link has been looked after by Chris Rabbets at Roadspeed, Stoud and was owned by two brothers, David Gentelman of ART website.

As the cars covered 100k what should have been replaced?
