What else do I run?

Postby Tony Smith » Mon May 03, 2004 9:21 pm

Besides my GTA Turbo my other babies are an immaculate metallic black Skykline R32 GTA mildly modded with 18" Volk Racing wheels, Apexi downpipes and decatted system, HKS air filters, HKS F-con management - 315 bhp at the wheels at 0.9 bar boost, much quicker than the GTA at the moment but don't think it will be once the 3 litre lump goes in, doesn't handle as well either. I also run a 4 wheel drive 21 turbo, tungsten grey on 17's with cossie t3 running 16psi, custom made 2 3/4" stainless exhaust, alloy intercoolers and have nitrous kit ready to fit soon as I get a new paddle clutch! Oh and should I mention the Shitron BX turbo diesel. 50mpg and great for collecting spares in!

94 Toyota Supra UK Twin Turbo. Quicker than the Alpine in a straight line but does not handle nearly as well.

My GTA turbo will be my main car, when i get her finished and im happy with the result. I sold an Audi A4 to buy my GTA - bit of a difference, but a family car is no longer needed, so i thought i would go for a GTA as i have always wanted one since my father had one when they frist came out, i remember him throwing it around country lanes with a big smile on his face! :D I have had quite a few performance cars in the past and the GTA is by far the best, in my opinion, as it combines comfort, speed and handling in a very individual package.

No other car for me, just the Alp,

Used everyday, only 15 miles a day though, unless I give it a blast down the country lanes.

Here's a list of problems i've had, but I've fixed most of them myself.

Starter motor went, £45+ v.a.t. Eurocarparts, doddle to fit.

Alternator £35 for reconditioning, I also changed the belt at the same time.

Header Tank leaking, replaced with new one from Renault.

Headlamp corroded, new one from Renault £240!!!!!!!! :-(

Replaced steering wheel as it was worn, with a new A610 one, bolts straight on and a bargain at £110

Replaced both window motors, Eurocarparts sell the mechanism for the Renault 25 for £50, they dont fit GTA, but if all you need are new motors, then there a bargain as they're the same.
Renault charge £140 for one mechanism.

Replaced plug leads, £25 Eurocarparts.

New thermostat and temp sender + varios hoses.

New Crankshaft sensor, stops poor hot starting.

Practically dismantled the car for a respray after some b@stard scratched it :-(

Was pearlescent white, but its now red.
Im not sure if it has been boosted, as it seems a lot faster than my friends, although I do have a stainless steel single exit exhaust, but I dont think that would make a lot of difference.

It does make a lovely howling noise though :-)

Just the GTA turbo used everyday for work n play. Nice to get back in a sports car again used to have a 914/6 (porker) great for burning your head in the summer sun OUCH!! but house buying forced it's departure. GTA quicker handles slightly better attracts the same looks but not envious ones just as difficult to work on but that adds to the fun, just need to make it go faster Who said 10mins to change a starter motor was it an Atmo or Turbo? Maybe it doesnt help i got hands like a gorilla's did u have to remove the two lower collant hoses to get the starter out i is asking cos mine may yet have to come out yet and having already had the bolts off to check the teeth weren't stripped (happend on the 14) i can safely say it took longer than an 10mins!

Sorry No GTA (yet!) I've got an R5Diesel workhorse (good little thing),
An A110 (V85) being restored (my baby),
An A310 3 stud (cheap spur of the moment buy for trackdays - when sorted)
and an A310 4 stud (Distance eater, mainly for autobahns).
More cars than I can really handle, but I'll carry on trying!!
Alpine A110, Renault Safrane 2.5dt, Hudson Kindred Spirit (Renault powered), transAlp (Honda) and Ducati Multistrada
