GTA Turbo Project Valuation

Postby JoeDawber » Wed Aug 17, 2005 1:03 pm

Hello all.

I have been a reader of this forum for quite a while, I don't think I have posted before though. I am just wondering if you folks could give me an honest opinion of what you think my car may be worth.

I've owned it for a few years now always with the intention of getting it up on the road but frankly progress has been slow due to extreme laziness.

Its an 88 E plate GTA turbo showing 107k. It still needs quite a bit of work to get it up and running again. Since I have had it I have done a few bits and pieces, I replaced both head gaskets and fitted a new clutch slave cylinder. I haven't quite finished re-assembling everything but I don't think there is any reason it shouldn't start once everything has been re-fitted.

I have also fitted a brand new garrett turbocharger, not a recon, this came from garrett direct. I hate to think how much one would cost from renault.

Its been stored at roadspeed in stroud for a couple of years, during which the only progress was to have a fiddle with the brakes. They seem to have misplaced the stainless steel exhaust which was unused, but have promised to find it

Its been resprayed Silver (decent finish but there is a couple of runs in the laquer I have spotted) it was originally the alpine metallic blue. There is some damage to the back spoiler and the front isn't perfect as can be seen from the photo's. I have both the original alloys and also the weller black steelies that can be seen in the photo's. Back tyres are shot.

The interior really needs a good clean, its dusty and the carpets show a bit of green, but its dry and definately salvagable.

Ive loads of boxes of bits, i think pretty much everything is there to complete the job. It just requires someone with a bit of enthusiasm and time to get all the little jobs done

The car is now in my garage in Gloucester, but I am moving to Germany with work am weighing up the likelyhood that i will ever actually get round to sorting it out. If it has any value I think it may be prudent to sell it and feel like a failure!!!

Here are a few pictures, any feedback gratefully received.

Without the car running I would say 1.5 - 2k max even with lots of new parts, people will always assume the worse if you can't prove you've got a working engine/clutch/gearbox. Get it all back together and everythings ok around the 2.5 - 3k mark and if you get it through an MOT with new tyres etc more like 3.5k or if its a really nice example up to about 5.5k obviously depending on exact condition, mileage etc.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Cheers Tony,

Thats kinda what I thought, its quite tempting, I might leave it a couple of months and see if I can find somewhere to stash it over there.
Unless anyone is interested....
Thanks

Hi all.

Well its more than 3 years since I moved to Germany and it looks like I won't be returning to the UK for a considerable time. So it looks like the GTA will have to go as all its doing is reducing the rent I receive on the UK property!!!

So if anyone here is looking for a cheap GTA as a project or even for the parts please let me know. I will be making a rare trip to the UK to organise a changeover of tenant in the property (GLOUCESTER) where the car is currently stored between 24th and 27th November.

The links above to the pics seem to not work (think I changed the folders) so to see pics look here

Drop me a PM if interested, or email at j_r_dawber (at) hotmail.com

Thanks!

Hmm, that's interesting. Our paths have crossed before back in my 21 turbo days and he has actually been in contact with me about this a couple of years ago for a friend of his. I shall have to drop him a mail.
