Not a GTA but please help !!!!

Postby pgoldsmith » Mon Oct 20, 2008 6:03 pm

Not a GTA but my wife’s 520 Beema.

It was not running too well, missing on one or more cylinders.
So, I took the coil packs off and removed the plugs to check they were ok. All looked fine apart from No.3 plug. Then I put them all back, sprayed the coil pack connectors with switch cleaner and went for a run. Everything seemed to be fine and in fact it appeared to run smoother.
Then, I checked the reversing light switch (connects into the box), this came off in my hand so I tied up the connector and left it there – another job for me to do.

We then went out shopping, came back and put it on the drive.
This morning, it cranks over but will not fire up.
I've just taken the engine cover off again and sprayed the connectors on the coil packs with WD40, but it's made no difference. :(

Any suggestions :?:

When was the last time you changed the spark plugs?

The six cylinder BMW engines are sensitive to plugs, must be the correct type.

The engine floods easily and will not start.

Other things to look at...... the flywheel sensor sometimes give up.

The individual coil packs also give problems, but normally just one at time. I.E. just off a cylinder.

Changed them in May of this year, so I wouldnt have thought they'd ve playing up.
However, I will replace them anyway - for the sake of 15 quid.

Engine probably is flooded now, what's the best way to unflood, remove plugs and leave the pots open for a while ??

The correct spark plugs should cost at least £50 for the set of 6.

They are not a conventional type spark plug.

You might have the 'motor factor do rightly' spark plugs!
