The offside looks OK but needs a close check to be sure,

A few days for the adhesive to cure and I'll be back on the road :D

BTW... the guy who made these up for me is happy to do more if anyone else needs a set.

Looks like a quality job, well done :D Your braver than me on that one, I still want to leave mine alone.....(I don't think they are that bad to be honest)

Would I need to?

Looking at http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=78&pictureid=642 that DaveG published earlier in this thread, there'd have to be something quite seriously wrong for it to need to come out.

I used nut locking compound so that nothing will come loose, and using stainless nuts and bolts should ensure that there shouldn't be any rust problems.

I can always take them out and refit if worthwhile though.

Martin's made the mistake of combining stainless nuts with stainless bolts in a car where everyone is obsessed with stainless steel. Ok, they don't corrode, but you get a whole different problem you almost never meet on steel fastners - Galling. This is where the threads on the bolt shear off in the nut and the thing just spins until the cows come home, with thread both north and south, there's no easy way to get the thing out. I most recently experienced this on my other half's Figaro which has stainless exhaust studs joining the cat to the downpipe. Took me half an hour just to get the damn thing OUT in order to repair the thread.

Decent quality steel bolts (such as the GTA doesn't have) and copper grease is the way to go, IMO.

Scotty Dog,

I have just looked at your turret pockets and they look great, I am glad that the templates worked out well. Making them out of stainless should at least make them last another 20 years!!!

I haven't managed to change mine at the moment, too many other jobs on the go at the present. However now that you have managed to get them out much easier than expected gives me a lot more encouragement to change them. My car is still roadworthy and is still being used although I am not using it as much as I have done. With Winter already here I think I am going to leave it until the spring?

Hope you get it on the road soon.

Regards,

Jeff
