Radiator

Postby David.C » Sun Feb 13, 2005 12:56 pm

I appear to have a hole in my radiator caused by a stone I think. Is the radiator a standard Renault one available of the shelf or I'm better removing it and getting it recored locally ( Edinburgh ) ?

TIA
David

I'd have it re-cored locally. Quicker and cheaper. Had to do mine last year. Make sure it's re-cored with a racing core. This just means the cooling vanes are more densly packed than on a standard radiator.

David.C, Welcom on board. Are you a member of CAR (Club Alpine Renault), Barry Jayes had his rad recorred are describes the job from start to fining in detail very well in a previous newsletter. He even noticed that the car ran a couple of degrees cooler afterwards, as the bottom half of the rad was flushed out too.
If you are not in CAR, let me know your email address and I'll send you a pdf of the article.

Not the best, but is it possible to put different end pieces on the rad, so that the in and exit can be top and bottom? What car's rad can we get these from?
Yeh, and then there will be 1 connection pipe too short, maybe 2, next challenge.

I'm not a member of CAR yet, I just bought the car on Xmas eve on Ebay.
I would appreciate a copy of the pdf file, my email is david@crookston.fsworld.co.uk.

See this thread: http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/PHPBB/ph ... highlight=

Also, I have some pics I took when I removed my radiator, if you'd like me to email them to you?

Always worth checking Renault for the price of a new rad. Price fluctuates wildly from £80-£300 for some reason. Mine was around £86.

Hi there - welcome to the wonderful and whacky world of GTA ownership. I'm located in Penicuik - drop me a PM and let me know where you are.(Just noticed from the "spotted" section that it was you in the very shiny looking Red Turbo a couple of weeks ago - very smart looking motor)

I got my Rad re-cored here:

SCOTRAD
Vehicle Radiators & Number Plate Manufacturers.
410 Gorgie Road
Edinburgh
EH11 2RN

0131 337 8887 Phone
0131 337 9998 Fax

Cost £105 + VAT but what a difference! New core had to be sent through from Glasgow but it was basically done the day after I enquired.

4 core rads

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Feb 15, 2005 4:01 pm

Paul down at ARR is doing 4 core rads if you want a bit of extra cooling capacity.

radiator

Postby David.C » Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:46 pm

Thanks for all your input.A new rad from Renault uk was 213+vat, so i'm getting it recored at Scotrad as suggested by Andrew.Scotrad origanally quoted me 90+vat for a new one but this turned out to be for a Renault 5 turbo, so a recore it is.

Cheers again

That sounds like the going rate. I paid £110 inc. VAT for my re-core.
