Yes thanks we do have the same diagram and yes you are right the cam is number 8 and not 9.
The spring is still in there.
Will have a look tomorrow and will compare to the otherside. Guess that is how I noticed the cam missing by comparing it to the otherside in the first place. Yes I think the otherside is all okay.
Yes I think I understand now about getting it back in... thats if I can find it...

It's not as simple as it looks boys .
To get the cam back in you need to compress the stack of bellville washers with the special tool .I've done them before without it but it's a right pain,got the tool and it's done in 5 mins .
The cam needs to be placed in the top of item 10 and then the actuator arm is slid in from the side ,but the washers need to held compressed and the large spring retaining clip 9 also needs to be in place .
Whatever, the caliper will have to come off the car to do any of this .

Thanks for that information Lee, very useful :) but perhaps you can answer a question for me :? For the life of me I cannot work out how Cam 8 is held in the slot of component 10. From the pics it just seems to be sitting in the slot, which surely can`t be right :?

Yes ,it just rest in the end of the threaded plunger and will fall out given the slightest chance :evil: It's a fiddly job .But if you have the tool it's 8)

We need a few more' how to ' articles in the members section don't we ?
The only ones at the minute are those from the initial site launch I think .
I've got a caliper with all the bits I think ,I'll sort out a step by step guide with pics .

Imagine how terrified I am then! :o Certainly no handbrake for me- :cry: Still- who needs a handbrake really- I mean they are only useful on steep hills :roll:

I have to admit, with my cars in the garage, I dont keep the hand brakes on, they are either in gear, or park, especially on cars that are not used that often. There is always the risk they will seize in the on position :wink:

I've got a couple of calipers you could try and refurb from the titanic if you want? Is there a kit available still, I seem to remember you saying there was? Obviously I shall cross your palm for doing it mucka :wink:

Yes there's a kit ,well was ,from Brakes Int .To do both with new sliding sleeves .pistons seals etc about £100 in bits I remember

Thanks again for all the info/ pics -great and also the ideas of 'how to' -- yea, I am sure 'how to guide' could help many, as this has helped me...

think I will put it back together get my normal brakes working and try to sell the car as 'this is one of the only problems it has!' :oops: Well, I think apart from this it doesn't have many too other issues... luckily... (so far!)

strange how a 2cm bit of metal can cause all these probs! Fiddly is a word that comes to mind....

Just one more thought... why does Alpine/ Renault use the 'cam plunger'? I mean couldn't the thing it sits in just be 2cm longer, doing away with the 'cam plunger'?? Don't like these 'cam plungers!' :twisted: If you see what I mean....? What purpose does it serve other than another part that could go wrong, as it has.... couldn't they have just made the shaft 2cm longer on the part it attaches to? Maybe I am missing something though (probably).... :?

Is it because it has to make an angle?
