GTA lighting / xenons ?

Postby Dave Williams » Thu Sep 04, 2008 7:12 pm

With the nights drawing in - i am reminded how rubbish the lighting is on country lanes...either that or I have a carrot deficiency.

I know a lot of the chat on here is about getting more power...but that's no use if you can't see where you are going...so...

Has anyone tried one of these HID / xenon upgrade kits ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260283467294

Are they a load of nonsense, or even unsafe (considering the proximity of the fuel tank to lighting circuits, and 20yr old french wiring), or maybe even the answer to our lighting woes ?

Anyone know, or use these ? cheers Dave

You see them even cheaper as low as £69 and I'm going to try one in the 610. They seem like great value.

they are illegal to use on any car that does not have headlamp wash or wipe fitted, also headlights must have height adjustment, i.e. from inside the car.

the headlights that are designed for H4 type bulbs etc are designed for this bulb type only!

the lines on the glass and the headlight reflector do not cope with the HID kits and cause glare to oncoming drivers.

.....but hey, who am i, i'm only a paddy irish man!

Most of the kits do carry a disclaimer like the one below.

NO XENON HID conversion kit available from any source is DOT approved if installed outside of the factory. Moreover, in the U.S, this is not street legal for use on public roads. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes. We are not responsible for buyers who violate the terms of sale while in which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use.

Looks like they may need to come out at MOT time.

The way I look at it.....

Postby si21 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:37 am

We get blinded by all the Beemers etc cos the owners would not even be aware what the head light adjustment does . and thats okay   We cant see where we are going and its not ok for us to blind other motorists like the Beemers and Merc's.

B@LL@CKS SELF PRESERVATION RULES!!!!

Si21 When you can see at least you can try and avoid it!!!

Lee - not sure about those R8 style LEDs...for me they always look a bit 'battlestar galactica'....

...Anyway, anyone used these HID lights for 'off-road or exhibition use' ??
