Replacing the stereo

Postby LiamMcShane » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:45 pm

I'm having problems with my stereo. It doesn't operate at all! It will turn on, but all I hear is static when the radio is on, and nothing when a cassette is in, so I have decided to replace it with a beautiful Sony blackface unit I had in my old SPL car. I was wondering where I can get the adaptor plate to fill the big hole, and also if there are any potential problems with the surgical procedure? I was also thinking of fitting some speakers and an amplifier to the car. Is the alternator good enough?

I blanked mine with a piece of carbon fibre which I glued into the little lip the old stereo left.....Ive now fitted a boost guage and switch for my intercooler jets onto it and if I do say so myself it looks extremely neat!
There should be no problems doing the wiring on the new stereo.....have you got the stalk controls next to the wheel? I removed mine, but you may even beable to buy an adapter to make them work what with your new stereo being Sony.

I do a stalk adaptor interface for the Sony for the GTA for £35.00, comes with a DIN plug adaptor, being on older Renault interface. For the dash panel I use 3mm MDF covered in black vinyl to match the rest of the dashboard. You can mount gauges in it at a later date if nessecary

Did you ever compete. I used to have a Rover 800 Turbo running a wall with 6 fifteens with 1600rms to each (159db) and one of my audio fitters holds the european record with a VW Golf, 2 fifteens in a wall, 24000rms, 172db! The only car in the world that a piece of A4 paper can be put into the port area of the box, and rip it clean into 15 pieces!

Nah, never competed. Just liked going round showing up all the Lax Power kids at the local cruise every now and again. I had 4 x 10" 250w Rocky subs running off 2 Pioneer class D 4 channel amps bridged to 2 channels each, 2 Pioneer 300w 6x9's running off another Pioneer class D and 2 Blaupunkt 150w 5" components and tweeters running of the head-unit. (I quite like the Pioneers!!) I never got it measured, but I put the back window of the Ibiza out twice!

Nah! I'm a DJ and as such am quite into my sounds! I will have a great sounding set-up in the GTA at some point. Just trying to work out where to put it all without destroying the rear seats! :P

I sell Citroen, but I've always hated the Saxo! Offset pedals, windscreen at your nose, hateful styling, need I say more!!!!!!!

I do a stalk adaptor interface for the Sony for the GTA for £35.00

I've got two remote controls for the Sony headunit. A credit card sized one and one of those roller things, so I think I can live without the stalk. Cheers anyway DG
