Reasonably priced Multimeter

Postby JohnC » Wed Jul 09, 2008 2:06 pm

For those of you that followed my rambleings a few months ago, when trying to help a GTA owner fault find his ignition problems, you will recall my suggesting that a multimeter was a must when trying to find electrical faults on these cars. When I was in B&Q today, I saw the identical meter to the one I always carry in my cars when I go away. I actually bought mine in France a few years back for 10euros, they work well and are very robust. It appears they have come to the UK still at a reasonable price:-

If anyone is interested in getting one, but is not too familiar with operating it,( at the time you may remember DG suggesting to me that not everyone knew how to operate a multimeter..which of course is true) I would be quite happy to go through it with them, either on this post, or with PM`s.

And before anyone asks, No, I have not got shares in B&Q

When picking a multimter, be sure the continuity/diode test has a beep fuction (ie working out what wire goes where, the meter beeps when two points are connected toether.

I picked up a slightly more expensive one in Maplin with one extremely handy feature - it comes with a calibrated temperature probe.

Mmm - a backlight -is- handy.

As for chasing wires in a GTA - "that's the yellow one, right?"
