very very very accurate fuel gauge !!

Went out for a run yesterday & the low fuel warning light came on --- 100 yards later and I spluttered to a halt !! OUT OF FUEL !! The RAC man was very understanding ! Perhaps I will keep the tank half full in future .

Heres a thought, when I fill my GTA to the brim, the fuel gauge reads 15.2 gallons. Now the tank sender is a linear device, so I would expect it to be accurate. However, if when I fill the car to the brim, I got a much higher, or lower reading, I would expect the lower end of the sender unit to be inaccurate even though I know the tank is a weird shape. What "filled to the brim" readings do other owners get?

I have only just got back from my travels, and havent filled up yet. But on the continent, the highest I saw was 1.69 euros, which is about £1,35 a liter, but I try to get it from a hypermarket at about 1.39 euros, about £1.11, but in Austria, it is about 1.22 euros, about £0.97 a liter. Trouble is you have to join a long queue of German motorists who go into Austria for their fuel

I get 70-71 litres...to the brim. Think this is what is meant to be ?

Also my speedo has worked for 10 years of ownership!
I think though the LHD's didn't suffer the speedo problems of RHD?

Isn't that about right? by my calculations that is 69.12 Litres? My LHD reads between 70-71 litres..... Which I think is what it should be? 69.12 is virtually the same, give or take a litre somewhat....

Remember in 2002 travelling through France, we got a gallon of fuel (Diesel at the time for £2.15 a gallon). Should have bought a juggernaut load of it by the looks of it....

Yes, divide by 4.55 to convert to gallons, and you get about 15.4gals. Sounds good to me

Super unleaded.....99.9p a liter (for Alpine)

No No, mine is about the same, just filled to brim today, and it reads 15.6 galls. It will never be exactally the same each time, I mean a few tenths of a liter differences is no problem.
The point I was getting at originally, was to those who were running out of fuel on the road. My feeling is that when you fill up to the brim, and you get a reading of around 15.2 gals, then I would consider the fuel gauge readings to be accurate. The convers being that if you filled up to the brim and got a reading of 18 gals, then I would expect the car to run out of fuel at a reading of 3gals, if you see what I mean

When I first started driving, petrol was 1shilling and 9pence a gallon (in old money) which equates to 8.7p a gallon but I only earned £4 a week.
About the Tax Haven, you try and buy a house over here. The smallest semi, no garden or garage £500.000, and unlike UK house prices are still going up. Cant answer the last bit, dont smoke, cant aford it after buying the house
