recommendations

Postby oilman » Mon May 12, 2008 3:04 pm

I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Make
Model
Year
Engine size/type

Any mods

Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

Guy

Yes what do you recommend for

Renault
GTA Atmo ( non turbo )

2850cc engine

Road use......most journeys under 20miles

i always let engine warm up for around 3 miles before i use upper rev range.

Thanks John

John,

Sorry for the late reply.

You can use a 10w-40 semi synthetic with regular changes, however as more of a quality choice a 5w-40 synthetic will be better changed every 8-10,000 miles or once a year, which ever comes first.

15w-50 is the recomended grade, synthetic is best and I would also look at 10w-50 for better cold start.

Have a look at Mobil, Silkolene and Motul for top quality

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-647-engine- ... grade.aspx

The gearbox is recomend a GL5 75w-# I would go with a good synthetic 75w-90 such as the Silkolene Syn5 75w-90 which meets both GL4/5 and is a very well proven gear oil.

price match..... waste of time..... if you're going to offer a price match it should be against any retail competitor.... delivered or collected......

No, not really. We offer to pricematch against the same thing, online delivered prices from genuine sellers. We aren't going to pricematch against market stalls, random Ebay sellers, etc , where you don't know if the product is actually genuine and comes with no guarantee.
