A Red GTA '86 Turbo

Postby simontaylor » Tue Feb 01, 2005 9:51 am

Page 176 of Classic and Sports car:

Black leather, maintained regardless of cost by Alpine specialist for past 12 years, garaged, taxed and tested. £3,450. Tel : 020 7453 2550.

Picture is small, can't see the registration, but looks good condition, with original wheels. I would guess Paul Sage knows about the car judging by the seller's tel no.

I've bought it.Needs 2 rear tyres offset cracked headlamp lens and has a dropped drivers door with dubious solenoid and bust emergency release cable. Rest of it looks tight mechanically. Duff respray however. Have I bitten off far more than I can chew?

I was going to see the car this weekend, but the seller messed me about so much I gave up. FWIW, I spoke to the chap who used to service the car and he reckons all the important stuff is sound.

All the best

Adrian

ps Now I can't find a decent V6 Turbo in my budget, considering Lotus Elites and Elan +2s

Don't give up yet. Stick at it and you'll find one. Don't dismiss an atmo if it's a really clean one.

As long as its the hinge!

Postby Tony Smith » Sat Feb 05, 2005 11:35 am

Make sure the reason the doors sagging is just the hinge. Have seen several cars now where the metal plate thats bonded to the body has rusted due to blocked due to blocked drain plugs. This is a major operation to replace involving removing the door and cutting out a substantial part of the body to replace the affected area. Very difficult repair to get just right.

That white atmo on ebay last week looked like a top vehicle from the advert.....but you'd need to see it to be sure.

don't forget to keep an eye on the FOR SALE section on here.

And Atmos are well worth considering.
