Testing Reverse Light Switch

Hi folks

The reverse lights have not worked on my car since I bought it.

I have checked the fuse and the bulbs themselves and there is no problems there, that leads me to believe that the reverse switch in the gearbox is at fault.

What I was thinking of doing to test the switch was pulling the two connectors off the switch and joining them together, will this make the reverse lights come on? I take it that the switch is mearly a ground and once it is earthed by the switch the lights come on.

Other than that I am stumped.

yes, joining the two wires together should bring on the reversing lights.

as said yes join the two wires together should get the lights to work

best to use a fused link just in case

but the switch is not earthed so do not let the wires touch to ground or you will blow fuses etc.
