John
A couple of further tests for you:- with ign switch in engin run position ie. second click, Do the brake lights work? with regard to windows, which switch position do they work in. pos 1, aux, or pos 2, engin run?

John.
I hope Lee can make it, its becoming clear a meter will certainly speed up this fault finding process. I am going to post the cct diagram for the ignition system, which might help tracing the wiring through. Hope it helps.

The blue line is the current passage from the key switch, to the coil. dont worry about the yellow line, that was for some previous exercise. Any questions, please come back to me. Good luck :D :D :D and let us know how you get on.

Hi John, i had a check and it seems that the brake lights do not work,, tried them last night and although i was on my own i could see no reflection of the lights when i tried them so presume that they do not work.
The windows work in pos 2.....the radio works in pos 2, neither works in pos 1.

The immobilizer is a Cobra....model 8510....cat 2...fitted Jan 05

Thanks...John

The plot thickens. The brake lights should work in pos 2, and the radio in pos 1 & 2.
I am sure that if Lee gets to you, he will find no volts on the coil, But I would trace the cct back from the coil with a meter, which may lead to the Cobra. With the ign switched on that, in my opinion, will lead you to where the fault lies. As the Cobra is not the Renault fit, their immoblising function could well be to break the ign cct. But where it is broken could well be the reason why indicators/brake lights/wipers now dont work. As all these functions pick up their power from Pin 2, grey plug on the key switch So where they broke the cable, (possibly behind the moulding under the streeing wheel, refered to in my earlier post) will have to be found the hard way. If Lee is coming, might I suggest to save time, if you can, remove that moulding under the steering wheel. As a voltage check on Pin 2 of the grey plug would be useful. I suspect you will find 12v there. Any questions dont hesitate to come back. Good Luck

the ignition switch has been known to give problems.

has your car still got the original renault radio fitted? if so and it only works on postion 2 of the switch i would be having a wee look at the ignition switch.

only a suggestion.........

Yes Lee is on his way. Don,t know to tell the truth about the Cobra there is a rounded key switch under the steering wheel with a plastic cover ( don,t have key ) which the AA man said was probably an old alarm.
