This weekend past has not gone well :cry: Well it has and it hasn't but suffice to say I'm sick to death of GTAs at the minute :lol:
Got my rebuilt lump in but struggled to get it running on the modded fly or trig wheel on the Adaptronic.
Many MAPS later it ran on the trig wheel albeit a bit strangely and glowing manifolds under no load . I'm pretty sure the trig wheel is set correctly as the tippex :lol: marks on wheel and case lined up within a couple of degrees ................
Cut a long story short ,got it out on the road and running but 1/2 mile from home it cuts out on a bend never to start again .Couldn't turn the engine on the starter or by pushing in gear :cry:
Rang me old man and he came out and towed ,as he calls it ' the nail ' back to the garage .

Next morning it had freed up , I can turn it over by hand ,it's a bit tight but it's fully rebuilt so I'd expect a bit more resistance than usual.Pulled the engine out the top and chucked it on a Pikey-Pro 195/45/15 stand :lol: I have now put it on the proper stand and am about to take the bottom end apart for a nose .The only issue from the build was a fairly tight crank end float so I'm wondering if that combined with the excessive heat could be the problem ??
I,m loathed to take the heads off unless I really have to so if all looks to be in order bottom end ,it turns do I put it back ??????
My thoughts at the minute are to do what I should have done in the first place and run it in on the Renix and std flywheel .The trigger wheel works well so the modded fly issue is purely for arguments sake .Once it's run in I can get it to a professional to sort the Adaptronic on the trig wheel .
My other option is to build up the bits on the bench that are ready and start again with another rebuilt lump .
I dunno at the minute :cry: I might leave it for a few weeks and get the spuds/carrots and onion sets in ..............far easier and far cheaper ........
Or I might just get the whole car up in the air and sort all the little tiny niggles and crack on bodywise for a month or so .......Feck this year ,read some more books,save me car fund £'s and build a lightend/ flowed lump .

Oh dear, sorry to hear that matey.

Why not get a standard lump with std ecu running right first, then start tinkering?? Sorry if sounds obvious but you did it last time OK didn't you, well until you blew it up :lol: :wink:

bad luck lee.

sounds like the timing was a mile out to make the manifolds glow!

did you put a timing light on and see what it was at when idling?

on the engine front..... sounds like you need to strip it and see why its tight.

rebuilt engines should have a very smooth free turning crank in the crank case. its the piston rings that cause the friction.

was the end float within good auld renaults tolerance?

is your car destined for a wee trip to the emerald isles???!!! :roll:

Put a strobe on and it was right within max, 5 degrees ...............I think the best plan is for me to plonk a std setup back on and leave it at that :lol:
According to the Bruntingthorpe data, messers T law and Juzz B have the best performing cars and they're virtually STD :wink:
End float was a tad under min so I rubbed the shims down a bit .I will strip it down at the weekend if I get the urge :roll:

have you changed the fueling in any way, ie way it to lean?

The crank turned very freely during the build .It may be endfloat ? I can soon check it again and perhaps open the tolerance a bit .

Shite in the system ???? I dunno yet .Probably never will :roll: I will have a look at the filter and see what's in there .3 miles only so my bet is on a bit af crud ...................
I have two other good cranks so this one can go for scrap , 20 kilos worth :roll:
