Loss of oomph

Postby GISKARD » Sat Mar 08, 2008 9:31 am

Hi

I have had an intermittent problem with my GTA turbo for a while now, when accelerating the car felt like it was missing when the car came on boost. This never happened all the time - one of those problems that when you have a look, the car decided to run fine and you couldnt find anything wrong.

Last night I went out everything was fine with the drive, stopped for something to eat, started off again and I have no boost whatsoever. The turbo gauge isn't moving, I thought if a turbo was on its way out I would see extra white smoke but there is no smoke, cannot hear the turbo spooling either.

Any pointers of what to look for?

Check the main intercooler/pipes for leaks .If the gauge has packed up at the same time it would suggest leak rather than the turbo itself .Could be the actuator also not holding .

Have you checked the rubber coming from the plenum to the actuator at the bottom of the turbo? Mine was shot when i checked a few weeks ago, new pipe = muchos power

All pipes appeared in good condition, removed the heat shield to have a look and found that the clip that holds the actuator rod had gone missing and the rod had come off - quick fix and everything back to normal. Yey! Cheers for the suggestions
