Engine cover

Further to my diet plan thread, Ive had a look at the engine cover and it weighs a bloody ton! Does anyone know exactly what the various vents in it do? If I replaced it with a sheet of carbon or similar, would my rear screen mist up the second I fired the engine up????

Ive ran mine without a cover at all, and didnt have a problem with misting. The various ducts on the cover suck and circulate the the heat at the top of the engine bay.

mmm....thats odd...I get misting even with the cover when I park the car, and yet I'm not loosing any fluid. Will be leaving the cover at home for events in future!!! Now I'll need a nice set of blue hoses so the engine bay doesnt look s!*t!!!!

Yep, once your parked, but not once there is some air flow around the engine bay..

Wouldnt be a good idea if the engine cover was removed altogether & the rear window was taken off and replace with a louvre type ?

Thats what I'm after, but ideally clear.

Going to a plastics firm to get a curved copy made wouldnt be too much of a problem. Only thing if its louvred is rain going straight on the engine.

Only other thing I found when not running the engine cover, was that the glass got very hot, so I dont know if the perspex would cope..

Hi all,
I find i'm getting condensation in the rear quarter window, especially on the near side!, taking a closer look I noticed the carpet there absolutly sodden with water! its also filling the gutter at the end of the engine cover. My drive slightly and I mean slightly slopes to that side of the car, and wondering is it getting through the rear glass screen seals or can it be driven through the air vents on the sides just behind the quarterlite glass by the door. Does any one else have this problem?

I think all GTAs get a lot of condensation on the rear glasses, and being on a slope, you maybe unlucky that its running to one side and gathering in one place. It could be the rear window seals, but unlikely, and the vents on the side of the car dont go into the rear hatch area, the air is diverted downwards into the engine area, sealed off by fibreglass..

I too would be interested in a clear plastic version.
If the lourves are design correctly I dont believe rain would enter the engine bay. May have to take a care when washing the car though - especially when using a hose.

Ive had contact with Barry about his rear screen.....it came from Simon Autos and is fibreglass. The cut out bits didnt come cut out which was apparently a complete botch to sort! He thinks it cost about £200. Not really what I'm after after all that effort!!!!!

.....thing about diets peter, is you have to put a bit of effort in to get anything out.

It wasnt the effort that put me off.......just dont really think it looks how I'd hoped.....imagined it as being transparent, but as its fibreglass thats not possible.
