Going in heads first

Postby Midlife » Wed Feb 27, 2008 5:44 pm

As I clearly have a blown head gasget & find the quotes beyond my budget I have decided to take the thing apart myself & send the heads off for recon . Can anyone advise on the timing gear removal as there is no referance in the manual that I have . I have not taken an engine out & stripped it since my old Jensen so wish me luck . Any tips welcome !

Good man 8)

Timing gear is not a big issue .It just depends what needs replacing .Replace the chains /tensioners, shoes etc if I were you .
I would advise you drop the whole subframe out if you have the workspace to do so .I've taken the engine out both ways now , out the top is doable but a real pain getting it back in .
I've got shed loads of pics from my rebuilds that may help also .
Give me a call and I'll talk you through it ..............07983 144595 or 01773 761216 .

Have you checked out the engine manual on the technical section of this site?

Yes, the engine manual is in the technical section on the site. I have plenty of engine spares including the timing chain slippers & gaskets etc.

Many thanks for the info gentlemen > The engine is now coming apart in large lumps . Heads tonight so the full story will be revealed . An interesting 24 hours ahead . Already found some hoses on their last legs and a throttle cable about to sever . Are these cable's a main dealer item or can the inner cord be replaced without a full strip out back to the throttle peddle ?
