The manual I have describes how, once you have reset the computer, you can see the flow meter sensor reading and the speed sensor reading. When you switch on after resetting and the display has all its segemnts lit up - press the function select button - the display should show the signal frequency from the flow meter. If you press the function button again, it will show the speed of the car - in meters/second - obviously zero until you drive. It also states that the fuel computer will flash after 10 minutes of no signal from the flow meter or fuel guage. I guess that doesn't help with dodgy or intermittent signals but at least shows that something is getting through from these two.

Good one Mitchella. I have just checked this out on my car, and you are right. I think the manuals are a translation, as the flow is calibrated in mpg, and speedometer in mph. Nothing of course will show (appart from zeros) until the car has travelled a short distance. But a very useful check.

I've slung my trip computer into diagnostic mode for some time now; I wanted to know the true reading of the fuel tank.

The LHS of the display shows fuel left, so what is the RHS displaying ?
It feels like some form of fuel flow as when it's on idle it's around 1.1, brisk acceleration 12.0 and full throttle & on boost shows 52.8 :shock:

milli litres perhaps ?

It should have some letters after the numbers, ie gph, or lph or something like that?

The manual says its Litres/hour for fuel flow and metres/second for the speed - but who knows whether that applies to the good old imperial version or not. The speed should not be hard to prove - if anyone still has a working speedo - but as for the fuel flow who knows. Presumably not gallons per hour or you'd drain the tank in about 15mins on boost at the rates mentioned. Fill the tank up and let her idle until she runs out of fuel. If its more than 2 days then the reading is litres per hour. If its only half a day then its gallons per hour. Just to be sure you could repeat the experiment 10 times and average the results... proper high school experiment style :lol:

My manual says Litres/ hour, like yours, but diagram shows " L/100 " which according to the text, is Litres/100km. For speed, manual says Km/H, however just checked car again to be sure, and on first press of computer function selection button, right hand number is followed by MPG, and second press, numbers are followed by MPH. Good old imperial. I suspect, but am not absolutly sure, RHD cars calibrated in imperial, LHD cars, metric, someone is bound to tell us their RHD car is calibrated in metric. Note also that in the manual, readout gives both "average fuel consumption" and "actual fuel consumption", possibly only on metric calibrated cars, certainly not in mine.

Well, mine shows MPG on the RHS of the display but I dont believe it can be flowing 52 gallons per hour on full boost on a standard car.
Probably Pints per hour :lol:

What happens to the 52 when you come back to idle?

When it goes back to idle it shows around 1.4

This must be flow but the display indicating MPG is daft.

You must be right, pity we dont know exactally what the reading is being refered to. However at least you know that the flow meter is producing pulses, next is to see if, under normal running conditions, your MPG reading is correct, remembering its an average, and will take a few miles to settle. Let us know if is OK.

:lol: That's the least of my problems...I now have a 2.5 V6 non turbo!! I have no boost :roll: Probably a split or loose pipe or something.

The speedo did work, everytime I went over a bump :lol: All part of the fun though, I just don't have the time to look at/fix issues so it takes me a while :D
