Driveshafts.....and dealers

Postby mettersl » Thu Dec 13, 2007 8:24 pm

Does anyone know the current availability on GTA/A610 drive shafts?
Having just tried (yet another) Renault dealer, I have found the usual story that after two weeks its all too hard...."-have to fax france, too hard etc"

As I understand it LHS (the side I am after) is 250, the RHS 350 on the price list- but not in stock in the UK.

I have been told (and I'm not sure I believe it) that they are actually unavailable- despite the prices on the Renault system. This is a long way off the first time this has happened to me, but usually only after you chase them they remember the parts aren't available....

Does anyone have:-
1) A reliable Renault parts department that I could try (somewhere in East Anglia or the south east) or kow te current position?
2) Know anyone that can rebuild them? (Mine is only slightly loose and noisy under full load only)
3) Know if the ones Simon Auto's have on their list are OK?

Cheers
Lee

IMy lot are good but they are slaves to the computer system, but aren't worried about ordering from France. I frequently get stuff in with a 60 part number and get a trade discount. Drop me a pm or give me a ring on 07976 619759

The LHS 6001009053 is finished. You cannot buy this new from Renault.

RHS 6001009054 is available and I have one new unit that came from Simon Autos in stock. Alternatively I can pick you up a new one from the Alpine factory if you like next time I go over.

Also I was speaking to a chap at the London Motorsport Chap last weekend about having them re-made as bolt on units for ease of replacement.

bolt-on o/p flanges are readily available for the DeLorean. The CV joints are ball type but the shaft itself is removable and is very simple

This might sound contradictory but Ive had two and they were both fine... David fitted the first but a failed gearbox mount later put it out of balance; a second one ordered from Simon Autos arrived very promptly and was a breeze to fit, and seems ok. Hope that helps.

Now I have a replacement drive shaft, I'd like to fit new boots to it.
Renault- certainly sir, that will be £40 for the pair. Gulp- OK
Until today- sorry sir, not available.
Has anyone had any luck using boots for other Renaults?? Are the joints from an Espace?
Is there a drive shaft supplier/overhaul company that anyone can recommend?
And whilst I'm here, is the oil pressure sender (the one for the gauge) shared with anything else?

Thanks
Lee

No, Espace\25 ones are too big. Ok one end, not the other, as one end of the shaft runs very close to the subframe, and a bigger boot rubs on it.

Take the shaft to a motorfactor, and see if they have anything that might be of use.

Lee, can you measure the shaft diameter of the 'A610' shaft for me?

Its always been said that they are meant to be thicker than the GTA ones, but when I had the my 610's and GTA's, I went round and measured them all and they were all identical.

27mm

I have just had this discussion with Paul Tindall. If they do turn out to be the same then I can get the late Le Mans shafts with ABS rings from the factory at a reasonable price. Only the RHS though.

Maybe Tony Law could measure his new Le Mans Shaft please for comparison.

I still have 3 used ABS shafts here, a left and right pair and an odd one (can't recall which till I measure it)

I'll go out and measure them tonight. I have a pair of GTA ABS ones and one spare A610 (LHS) one. I'll look at the cup sizes and the actual drive shaft diameter.
One complexity is I think Renault have been supplying A610 units for GTA as a substitution for a while.
As I don't know the history of the GTA shafts too well, if they are the same it might not be definitive.
As the 610 boots are unavailable and have a can attached I might just have to reuse the exiting ones. They are OK but I'd prefer some new rubber if its all out.
