Write Off Values?

Postby rogeralpine » Mon Jul 16, 2007 10:52 am

Looking like my rear shunt may turn into a write off - any idea what I can expect to get for it?

1987 E, GTA V6 Turbo - 70k - full history - very, very good condition, I've owned for the last 14 years!!

Thanks in advance.

ask mr D to go and have a look at it he could give you a pre accident value for it and maybe increase your negotiating power with the insurance company.... don't know how much he charges though for an inspection

You could ask MrJon who had a similar thing with his atmo.
Alpine A110, Renault Safrane 2.5dt, Hudson Kindred Spirit (Renault powered), transAlp (Honda) and Ducati Multistrada

Valuation 8k - but it will be the 3rd party insurers that pay out and they're obviously going to come in with something stupid! KGM are my insurers via Classicline - not sure how good they are at fighting my case for a decent valuation.

If it is written off what buy back for scrap could I be looking at? (Obviously I would want to get it repaired myself)

Mr D is a good distance away - travelling expense alone would be a couple of hundred.

I'll check out Mr Jon.(Username yes?)

But if you have the car insured as agreed value then it'd be £8K fixed price. There would be no argument. :?

I'll need to double check but I'm sure it's agreed value - thought that meant bigger all though?

Just spoke with Ren Manchester - 12k+ at least - defo write off then!

Just need to hope repair (rather then wholesale replace) is feasible and thus will work out cheaper!!

If it's agreed value then it's fixed (effectively like a contract) for the duration of the insurance ie 1 year or whatever's remaining.

As long as you've got that and you've been honest with the description and photos etc then there should be no issue at all, that's the whole point of it.

Beside's £8K isn't exactly a massive cost - a new and totalled Kia Rio could cost them that

To repair yourself with a mixture of new & s/h parts should be relatively cheap.

You should get a full agreed value letter payout if you sent photos and a recent valuation. Buy back will probably be somewhere between £1000 - £1500 possibly even less so you should be quids in.

Make sure it stays with you if possible though or it may well disappear to a salvage yard and be auctioned off even if you have been promised buy back. It's happened before.
