Looks like the weird 'federalized' GTA for the US crossed with the 610 so looks legit.

As a curiosity it might be interesting but I'd be worried about a prototype unless it was something really special like the 4wd GTA (just for a laugh). I read once about someone who'd bought a Corrado that started having electrics trouble. Turned out that when the local VAG dealer tried to fix it they found it had a hand-made bespoke loom. They traced it as a prototype that had somehow escaped the crusher and this guy was left with a headache as the dealer now wanted several thousand to install a proper loom and rewire the whole thing.

Still it's a GTA what am I on about. The wiring was hand knitted by a sozzled Frenchman anyway
I'm just here for the gasoline.

I think in France 'proto' is used for a car that's radically modified rather than how we use the term as meaning a sort of predecessor/forerunner of a production car? Our nearest equivalent would probably be to call it an 'A610 special'

It was featured in a French magazine fairly recently as an A610 prototype also.

There is a black 1993 American spec A610 prototype in the Renault Collection that looks very similar.

It may not apply to this car, but they do use the term proto for a modified car, usually a local garage modifies one and hopes to do it again, so it becomes xxxx garage proto. Then the xxxgarage bit gets lost an it becomes a proto. Have a look at how many 4cv etc up to 8G protos there are. Far more than the factory ever used.
