Help!-wont keep running-any ideas

Postby FrogPilot » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:28 pm

My Gta Turbo has spent five years off the road except for the odd trip to an MOT station.
Last time I tried to exercise it (run it up to temp, move it,action all electrics etc.) it fired first time but ran for a few seconds only.
Second attempt it will fire but not keep running.
Third attempt and it wont even fire.

Leave it overnight and the sequence can begin again.

Any ideas?

Failing that, any eccentric millionaires want to pay over the odds for a tatty (and at the moment, immobile) 1989 (Irish plate) GTA V6 Turbo RHD 87,000 miles, was dark grey, sort of two tone now, beige leather(drivers seat very worn but comfy-you can't see it when your driving anyway).

I would like to get it running soon (MOT expires August) if only for one last hurrah.

p.s. what do you bond collapsed headlamp covers back with?

I agree. Try and replace the petrol as it goes off within a few months and also add a good fuel system cleaner. Check to see if you can hear the fuel pumps running after the engine stops - they shoud run for a few seconds then stop.

If you find the map sensor, pull off the vacuum pipe too it, and this will make it run artificially rich on purpose to see if its a fueling issue. Less likely to clog the injectors if there is any shitty fuel because the pulse width is widened too. Don't do it for too long though, say 30 secs max..

I have the technical docs. downloaded from this site so I'll try and identify the bits and give it a try.
