Petrol problems

Just seen the news re. petrol contamination.
Does the GTA Turbo have an oxygen sensor ?

I had problems last week with lots of hesitation when idling and driving. Just wondered if it was down to this or something else !!

Only Lemans and A610 run an O2 sensor..

I've just changed my lambda sensor on the 610 and the car now runs like a dream. I'm scared to put fuel in the car now! :?

Do you reckon you'd still have running problems even without a O2 sensor ?

I havent read the full lowdown on whats been wrong with the petrol, but Ive heard it basically killing the lamda sensor quickly (which on cat cars controls the idle and part throttle fueling - hence running badly) so in theory, non O2 controlled cars shouldnt have a problem as it doesnt rely on it for fueling control.....don't quote me though....

lambda sensors have a finite life, like plugs, and should be serviced (changed) at about 30,000 miles. They also suffer contamination/failure from substances like silicone, anti-freeze, lead etc.

It all sounds like a contamination incident, but no one will admit to the cause.... yet.

Yeah, the DeLorean has a comical mechanical counter box that's driven off the speedo cable and has a triple digit wheel thingy like an old tape deck. It's whole purpose in life is to light up a light on the dash that says "lambda" at 30,000 miles..... handy to use as a foglight telltale too :)

Oh dear...... another mis-read Lambda becomes Lambada (and I've fielded technical queries from owners asking if their "Lambada" system is working correctly...)

(The lambda sensor in my DeLorean serves one purpose - bunging up the hole in the exhaust).

Turns out it may not be dodgy petrol after all. Seems like some sort of electrical fault.

Does anybody know if the Diagnostics of the engine record past faults or does it only show current problems.

Symptons: engine seems to run very rough, rev needle jumps all over the place. After a while everything seems to settle back down to normal.

I checked my earths on both the chassis and battery area last year and replaced copper washers which had disintegrated. So I dont think its that causing the problems.

Maybe a sensor of some sort ?

I the rev counter is jusmping about then its most likely a coil pack problem. Check the plugs and the main earth to it.

Fault occured last week, so I renewed the plugs but it didnt make any difference.

I presume coil pack is the Renix unit ?

Getting back to my query, does the Diagnostic hold a memory of faults that have occured ?

Yes, unless you have disconnected the battery for 20 seconds which clears any faults.

I think the coil pack is the square thing at the end of the common HT lead just under the side shelf with the map sensor and aux engine fan etc.

I replaced it a couple of years ago as I had cutting out problems then.

It turned out it wasnt the Renix at all but a faulty flywheel sensor!
I'm just glad I kept the old Renix unit on shelf in garage :)

MOT tomorrow..... :(
