Clee,

It is the bolt that holds the clamp on the edge of the bumper. Had a quick look down in the bonnet area and could not see it. Also the bolt seems to have a square end on it?

I think my bumper's been off many times in the past so probably not std fitment anymore .I only have the two main front and top wheel arch eft on it now .If you feel below and behind the clutch reservior there's a cutout giving acess to the bolt top .

Thanks again Clee.

I will probrably replace mine with a stainless steel bolt that I can get a socket onto and a big washer when I put it back on to make things easier next time! But if I can get to it via the bonnet then I sould at least be able to stop it spinning around somehow! I must admit I did not look under the clutch reservior so will take a look tonight.

Looked such a simple job when I started out !

Right the bumper is off at last !! Here is an update:-

1) 1. Remove the 6 Torx screws holding the flat 'undertray' section

None seized and removed easily

2) Loosen the clamp plates securing the upper trailing ends of the bumper to the underside of the front tub

Got nut down just enough on both sides to be able to get a junior hacksaw blade in an cut the bolt. Nuts were siezed badly and the car has rarely been out in the rain in its whole life! My advise it dont even bother to try and undo these if yours are siezed, just cut them! I will probrably have to cut beside the bolt hole slighty (there is already a hole alongside which I assume is a drain hole?) to get old bolt out and drop a new stainless steel bolt in! I cannot get to the top of this bolt via the boot ( Clee - I assume your hole was cut later?) so I am going to have to deisgn a bolt that can be clamped up at the bottom to stop it spinning round as I will not be able to access it from the top? Unless anybody else can suggest a solution

3)Unbolt the braces at their intersections with the corners of the bumper inner moulding

Came undone really easy and was not siezed all

4. Remove the Torx screws securing the bumper 'tie rods'

Again could not get either torx bolt out as the rectangle of steel just kept spinning around and when I clamped it down the bolt would not move as siezed! Again I just cut the bolt off on both sides and will replace with a stainless steel nut and bolt!


5. Remove the 2 main fixing nuts

Not siezed at came off easy.

7. Pull the bumper away from the front of the car.

Took a lot of pulling off!

Now the bumper is off I have to remove the air scoop (need to get a small enough spanner tomorrow toget nuts off along the top of the scoop!)/fans/aircon rad etc

They will probably all snap off as well :(

Ok guys. Radiator is now rebuilt and back in the car (minus bumper still) and the car is full of nice clean coolent etc.

Question I have is I have air con on my car and therefore an aircon rad in front of the radiator and I have 2 fans whereas I believe that cars without aircon had just one fan? When the fans kicked in last night, just the one on the offside started working? Is this correct is the other fan for the aircon or does it kick in at a later stage if needed? Or do I have a dodgy connction now that I have reconnected the fans and both should work at the same time?

They should both come on .If it's just one then summits up .Swap connectors ,see if it's the fan itself .Could be relay or fuse/holder .Check the fuse is tight in the holder .

Short the wires to the temp switch ,saves time waiting for the car to heat up ..

Thanks Clee. I suspected as much, that they should both work. The lead was tight length wise to connect to the one on the nearside,so I wil have a go at reconnecting it, maybe not fully connected?

Problem is now the rad is not clogged and there is clean coolant in there is takes an age before it gets to a temp where the fans switch on! :wink:

Unplug the sensor ,connect a loop of wire between the two wires on the lead to the sensor .This will close the circuit ,thats how the sensor works .

Also one of the air scoop boolts sheered last night puttting it back on! How do you replace these, or is there another mod that can be done?

when you say air scoop, I imagine you mean the scooped ducting from behind the bumber onto the rad...... try a little black cable tie. it will never rust, easy to get off again in just 1 snip too.
